Location Good. Everything else, not good.I'd like to point out first that coincidentally all of the positive reviews of this place are done by users who have only ever left one review which raises suspicion. The place has a lingering pungent smell, the beds are uncomfortable, and the bathrooms are in serious need of a refurb. I took expection to the owner asking me to remove my shoes as soon as a stepped through the door, whilst pointing to a bucket full of dirty slippers offering me a pair to use in the house. Maybe if i was a guest visiting their house, not a paying customer. The prices are extortionate for what you get, which is essentially a hostel. The owner also bursts through the door at any time, without knocking. The breakfast was the only nice thing about the place.

Worst B & B experience in over 30 years of travelI agree with everything that has been said in the poor reviews. It's not an experience you'll want to repeat once you've stayed here. The FIRST CLUE is the lack of cancellation or refund policy. If I'd done my homework, as I usually do, and read the reviews first (a serious error on my part), I NEVER would have booked in the first place. I've never stayed at a B & B that doesn't provide a refund policy with a certain amount of notice. After one night, I was ready to leave. It is in serious need of improvements, the rooms, the carpeting, the bathrooms, the food, the discourteous service, everything. One expects B & B owners to be friendly, courteous and ACCOMMODATING!, definitely not the case at the Sunnyside B & B. As for the food, one doesn't dare ask for anything else if muffins have been served because one will receive a scathing look. I've never been at a B & B that didn't provide a choice of cereals, eggs or some form of meat. Continental and that's it. Don't bother thinking that you're at a traditional B & B. One wouldn't mind this if one wasn't being gouged on the price. The room cost is ridiculous based on the state of the rooms and the lack of a full, proper breakfast. Wish I could make money this easily and with such minimal effort. And forget about room cleaning and bed making. That doesn't happen either. Another couple staying there at the same time that I was were in utter shock at the rude manner with which they were treated. The only positive thing that I can offer is that it's in a good location. Other than that, I have learned that one MUST read reviews because it's the only way you'll avoid a place like this. Lingering, pungent smell that has been identified by another traveller seemed to me to be from the very old, musty carpet

one thousand people have 1000 opinion !in my opinion , it's absolutely good for students ,it's super close to cu and ou ,u can even walk to school .The room is quite , they provide u long distance call , plus a computer with internet and wifi. The breakfast are customized in terms of serve time and the food , it's delicious and well balanced . ALL THOSE ARE FREE . the room is very clean , with microwave and a refrigerator . if u stay here , u'll become a part of real Ottawa , just feel it , and it's really worth . i would stay there again if i have a chance !

Horrendous - Worst experience - best advice is to avoid.Stayed October 2014 Where to start this B&B is appalling. Stay here at your peril. Firstly before you read this review I only continued to stay here because I came to Canada to visit my new 6 day old granddaughter but I did not want to impose on the hectic new baby household this B&B was only 800 away from her home, Secondly the owner took your credit card number and refused to give any refunds (not a surprise). I arrived at 2.30am after a long flight (he charges you extra to open the door to you if you arrive in the night) whereupon I had to endure an orientation lecture from the owner. After what seemed an eternity and not wishing to be rude I told him that I needed to sleep only to be told that he would continue the lecture in the morning. He then asked what time I wanted my breakfast. I asked for 10.00am (I had been travelling for 16 hours) only to be told that 9.00am was the latest that breakfast was served. Breakfast that was a laugh it was served in the entrance hall or should I say you served yourself it consisted of a flask of coffee (horrible) three small frozen microwaved muffins, the smallest pot of yogurt that you have ever seen and three pieces of fruit. No preserves only one piece of butter. Nobody appeared throughout breakfast. When I was leaving the owner appeared from nowhere obviously listening at his side of the door to continue the orientation lecture including telling me that I could not wear shoes in the house. He kindly was able to lend me the most disgusting smelly pair of old slippers that you have ever seen. I declined his generous offer. This lecture was like being back in school. Ignorant arrogant man. My room was in the basement. The ceiling was so low you could touch it with a bent arm; the window was approximately 2ft x 2ft and about five feet above the floor jammed shut with wooden dowling. The view was level with a tarmac driveway and the wheels of cars as they passed by. The bathroom was tiny when you stood in the bath for a shower your head touched the ceiling with the shower head level with your back. The bed linen had definitely seen its best years no duvet only odd blankets and the worst two pillows possible. There was a sticker on the door telling you that you could not wear aftershave or perfume. Throughout my weeks jail sentence here, the bathroom was never cleaned, the bed was never made or changed, and the room was never hovered although the waste basket was emptied twice. The TV, although I never used it, was in the wardrobe. If you were a light sleeper the noise of the full size fridge would have kept you awake. The room was a death trap. I found the owner to be the most inhospitable person that I have ever come across. For once in all my reviews even when I am being critical I cannot think of one redeeming positive comment that I could make. It is not even handy for visiting Ottawa. Unless like me it was completely for convenience do not stay here.

Perfect for our needsThe entrance to the B&B is separate from the main house. Using a supplied keycode, guests can come and go as they please, which suited us as we were visiting family nearby and weren't sure when we'd be returning that evening. Immediately inside the door is a large common room with a dining area including hot and cold water, complimentary herbal tea bags, a small fridge and a microwave. There is also a desk area with a computer and printer for guest use, although we didn't use it. Further in the room there is a lounge area with TV, DVD and a gas fireplace. We stayed in the main floor guest room. The room was small, with no view, however there was a comfortably firm queen size bed, a small desk, a couple of dressers, TV with remote and cable channels and a good size closet for hanging up clothes. The ensuite bathroom is tiny, but it's clean and with a tub/shower, toilet and pedestal sink it was entirely adequate. The hot water was very hot, good pressure and plentiful. Complimentary body wash, shampoo and conditioner were included. There was free WIFI throughout the B&B, and the speed of the internet service was very good. Onsite parking was also a big plus for us, as we were coming and going by car. Our host reviewed our breakfast options when we checked in, and we were very pleased with our breakfast of juice, coffee, fresh fruit, yogurt and freshly baked scones. The scones were delicious - and although the portions were overly generous we couldn't bear to leave even a crumb behind. It was nice too that we had an entire carafe of coffee to share rather than just a cup each. The B&B is set in an older house in an older neighbourhood - it's not trendy, it's not luxurious but it entirely met our needs and was perfectly located for our visit. I'd readily book there again.
