    Convenient and characterful good value.

The historic Sun is located very close to the main entrance of the cathedral, 2 minute walk no more! It is located in the heart of old Canterbury amongst the narrow streets and medieval buildings. Location wise couldn't be better. Access for cars is possible but only for drop off, closest parking is at the Northgate car park 20 mins walk, pay by mobile on card. Maximum time limit of something like 12 hours. For blue badge holders there is a free car park much closer, 200 metres, dedicated for them but a max of 4 hours. Alternative is park n'ride. The compact bedrooms at the Sun are furnished to a good standard in keeping with the location, carved dark wood furnishings. "Dickens" room has a four poster. TVs in rooms. Soft furnishings and decor are very good. The bathrooms have modern and smart fittings, wash basin, walk in shower. W.C. is separate. Breakfasts are adequate. Overall, very good value, room rates negotiable? Comfortable period bedrooms, Excellent location. Car parking not so convenient.

    One night stay

The reviews here are merciless! Yes there are issues, the decor is dated and the WiFi is non existent and it IS noisy, but its a heritage building with no double glazing and youre in the centre of a student town!! The plus side is the building is 600 years old and Charles Dickens stayed here! My boyfriend and I stayed in the Sun room and the bed was lovely, Andrew is very friendly and welcoming and to be honest my scrambled eggs and sausage was really nice. I had a nice stay, dont be put off by the reviews.

Lovely old building, great location, but maybe best viewed from the outside.

We stayed for one night. The building is lovely and has all the characteristics you'd expect from a 500 year old building. Yes, you can hear virtually everything that happens outside, but that's to be expected given the age. Great central location. The view from our room was good, but the hotel on the whole looks and feels tired on the interior. There was a coat hanger still hanging on our bed frame, presumably from a previous guest. There were also very dusty artificial flowers around the room, which I think would be better removed. The TV was not tuned, so we had to spend 30 minutes retuning it. Small issues, but several of them, which had a negative impact on our stay.

    A lovely stay

We have just spent a lovely night at this hotel whilst visiting our son who is at uni in Canterbury. The hotel is in the best location right in the heart of it. The noise didn't bother us as we were out til midnight anyway and by the time we got back everywhere was shutting down for the night. We stayed in the Sun room and it was fantastic. Very unique and the bed was sooooo comfortable. The bathroom is very modern and we made use of the spa bath. We really enjoyed sitting in the window seat in the afternoon watching the world go by. Breakfast was fine. Not amazing but just fine. Andrew the hotel owner is lovely. He was very friendly and welcoming on arrival. We spoke to him a lot over breakfast and he told us about the history of the hotel and recommended things for us to do in the area. WiFi is a bit of a no-no but that didn't bother us. If you want a hotel that's got a lot of history and right in the centre then this is fantastic. I would definitely go back especially to sleep in that bed again. For parking just do the park and ride. It's so easy and cheap. There are 3 in the area . £3.50 a day and free bus. It's actually walking distance.

    Nice hotel with great location

Hello, We stayed in this hotel September 14th and 15th 2020. Due to less tourist traffic we had the run of the place. It was relaxing and peaceful. I would recommend the Sun Hotel for your stay as it is in the center of all the shops and eateries.
