One of the best in AustriaWe loved this hotel. It went beyond our expectations and I am always amazed at some of the criticism people make on here, which can be very picky. In its class, a 3 star historic hotel in the centre of Kitzbuhel I don't think it can be beaten. Nice decor, fantastic food (we usually go out for at least one dinner, but food was so good we didn't), comfortable and very clean rooms, pleasant bar area and great staff / owners. OK it doesn't have a lift, but is an old hotel, most people are here on active holidays so a few stairs shouldn't be a problem, plus its easy to find this out before booking (so why complain afterwards?). All in all for the price we paid, we couldn't have asked for more. Even though we had to share a table for dinner (with a lovely couple), the waiter offered us a table on our own one night when there was a free one which I thought was very considerate. It is the best place we have stayed in its price range and star category in Austria and hope to return for a future ski season.

Gorgeous hotel in the centre of townReally enjoyed our stay at the Strasshofer in Kitzbuhel. The good points: -Good location in centre of town and not far walking to the main lift to slopes. Also bus stop just behind the hotel makes it convenient to get to the other lift areas in the resort. -Hotel is absolutely gorgeous - room 12 was beautifully decorated, spacious bathroom and plenty of storage space. -Wait staff were very friendly and looked after us well. The not-so-good (but not deal breakers) : -Wifi was not complimentary which is a bit annoying given that this hotel is not a cheap option. -Breakfast range was a bit small - a bit more variety would have been lovely. -Also, no tea time snacks served (eg around 4pm) which we've become used to having at other hotels and resorts - but probably better for our waistlines. Overall though, we loved our stay - Thank you very much Strasshofer!!

Fab hotel! Fab location! Fab price! As a couple we enjoyed a great week skiing week of 22 March. The hotel was in an excellent location; right in the heart of the historic old town with all the restaurants & bars on the doorstep. Coaches can't drive to front of hotel but only 2mins walk from the McDonalds drop off point. 5-10min walk to main Hahnenkamm gondola and ski bus 1min walk and only 2min ride. Stayed on top floor in lovely twin room very spacious for 2, with good size en-suite and good powerful shower. Room was very clean, with daily clean & fresh towels, and not stingy on the loo paper! Comfortable twin beds with clean & warm eiderdown. No free Wifi and no access in room but available in reception, bar & restaurant, and on stairwell when I moved my phone around to find signal! Small but cosy bar on 1st floor, fine for a pre-dinner aperitif. No lift so be prepared to carry your bags, but large heated ski and boot room in main entrance so only need to take bags up/down once. Small but cosy and inviting dining rooms (split guests across 2 rooms). 3-course meals filling, varied & high quality with fresh salad selection, and buffet breakfast daily. Buffet served in small lobby but well organised and plentiful, and main evening meals served at table; quick & efficient service, and hot! Just what you need after day on slopes. Good choice of wine and they will keep your bottle of wine for the week, and bring back to your table each day. Great staff! Professional, friendly & helpful and couldn't do enough for us. I had a knee injury on my first day, and they gave me ice everyday on my request at no charge. Excellent value for money for quality, location, and service. Overall, we loved the hotel and will definitely go back! Jen & Danny - Wimbledon.

Hotel closed at short notice - our holiday ruinedWe had booked to stay at this hotel next February 2015 (half term week so have to get in quick). We were very much looking forward to it until 2 weeks ago when Inghams advised us that the hotel was closed for the whole of 2015. No explanation or reason has been given. I would have thought a hotel would give significantly more notice than 4 months if it was closing for a whole year, given how far in advance people book. We have spent the last 2 weeks trying to find another holiday - very difficult indeed at this late stage when everything is booked up, and that which is not is silly money. We really have been landed in it and feel the hotel has acted badly in giving such short notice. Our holiday has been ruined, basically.
