  Good Overnight Stay in a Little Swedish Town

  The town of Markaryd is a lovely, sleepy little town. It is neat and tidy, very quiet and has a very pleasant feel about the place. Stora Hotellet could be very good with just a bit of adjustment (management please take note). The hotel is a little inconsistent with its presentation. The public rooms are well decorated and are kept clean and tidy. The staff are pleasant and the breakfast was excellent.The girls at breakfast continually replenished the buffet so it was always fresh and the choice, though not huge was well presented and was certainly enough. It is conveniently situated for the E4 and very near to the Elk Safari which is an amazing experience. The negative part........The hotel has no lift so the stairs could be a bit of a climb for older guests, especially if carrying a heavy suitcase. We had a nice airy corner room but the toilet was not clean, the shower curtain had a brown stain around the bottom, there was a used shampoo sachet in the shower and it seemed obvious that the bathroom had not been cleaned. The stairs between the floors were very dusty and had not been cleaned for a few weeks. I was looking forward to using the restaurant but this was now closed for two weeks, this could have been posted on the hotel web site. I certainly will use the hotel again as I loved the small town and I hope that cleaning pocedures will have changed by then.

  An excellent stopover - but not perfect

  My report echoes that of benmogsy so will not reiterate everything. Having flown in from England to Copenhagen and collected a hire car to drive to Stockholm we looked for a quiet stopover not far off E4. Stora Hotellet was in many ways perfect situated in a quiet small town. We enjoyed a double aspect bedroom which was clean but lacked a hairdryer something we only found in the morning. We too were caught out by the restaurant being closed and felt we should have been pre-warned as (on a Monday at least) there did not appear to be other restaurants open if you were not looking for a pizza or burger. Breakfast buffet was good for the size of the establishment and the welcome excellent. Sadly the public areas lacked cleaning (stairs and window cills) and the promised coffee and cake in the lounge lacked the cake.

  Old fashioned hotel

  The rooms are nice and clean but the hotel is very old fashioned! There were no restaurant or bar, all was closed. The reception was closed, no staff available. The breakfast was all right but not too big. The price is too high in this little town.

  Nice and charming hotel

  Spent some nights here during a business trip and had a great stay. Service minded and friendly staff, who made the stay a good stay. It is an "old fashioned" hotel, so the rooms were not extremly modern, but charming. And clean and nice. Didn't have time to visit the restaurant, but noticed that there was one and also a bar. Closing at 21. The breakfast was good with fresh bread. Not a huge selection of food though and I missed milk. There is a free parking outside and the hotel also has free wifi. I have no hesitation in recommending the hotel. Reasonable price as well.

  Nice place to stay in MArkaryd

  Outside building looks not so nice but the hotel is quite good. My room was quite big. Service is good. Opportunity to have diner inside the hotel in the evening. Food was very good. Parking just in front of the hotel
