Ok not sure I'd recommendWe were in a OK to nice room with a balcony overlooking the outside seating area of the pizza restaurant. Plus - clean, comfortable beds, good standard Minus - no air conditioning - it was hot 30C plus and so we had to have the windows open but it was very noisy outside late into the evevning - from pizza restaurant and because the hotel is on the main street - no kettle or fridge in the room which is unusual in a 3 star hotel - check-out at 7.50pm, no receptionist, service staff couldn't help so I had to leave with payment being taken from the card I'd used to book the room through Booking.com although I didn't want to use that card for payment.

A Great Hotel for Skiers! My wife, teenager and I stayed at Hotel Steinbock in Grindelwald, Switzerland in February. We arrived at the Grindelwald train station with ski bags and boot bags and didnt feel like lugging them on the 10 minute walk to the hotel. The hotel staff was nice enough to pick us up and, when we checked out, they took us back to the train station. To contact the hotel upon arriving at the train station, I went to the Tourist Office near the train station and asked them to call the hotel. We were picked up within 10 minutes. Our primary vacation interest was skiing. Hotel Steinbock is great for skiers as it is located beside the Firstbahn Gondola and there is a bus stop 20 meters from the hotels front door for skiers who want to go to Grund and ride the ski train to Klein Scheidegg or gondola to Mannlichen. Hotel Steinbock has an Italian restaurant which consumes the entire ground level floor of the hotel (interestingly, there is no hotel lobby, only a window in which to check-in and out). The restaurant fills the hotel with rich Mediterranean aromas. This restaurant serves great food, has a personable staff and has good service (we ate there twice and our food order was ready and served within 20 minutes, even when the restaurant was packed). It is one of the most popular restaurants in Grindelwald. It was always full while we were there and is best to make a reservation. Our room wasnt huge but it was clean, comfortable and quiet. It was on the side of the hotel, away from the busy main street and had great views of the Wetterhorn and Schreckhorn. Included in the room rate is a delicious breakfast buffet, eggs, bacon, meats, cheeses, fruit, yogurt, cereals, fresh baked breads, jellies, coffee, teas, and orange juice. I can recommend Hotel Steinbock without hesitation.

Lord of the flies! We stopped in here for a snack after a long trek from First to Grosse Scheidegg. It was 16:30 and very quiet. We did read the reviews from Trip Advisor and saw comments about flies but we thought well its September and not as hot as the height of summer so shouldnt be too bad. We only went here because a well recommenced other place was closed on Wednesdays. We initially sat outside but the flies were too bad, so we moved inside, well it was a swarm fest! For real!! Even before food arrived and worse afterwards. I sprayed DEET spray on the backs of our hands and the edge of the table in an effort to deter the bugs, it worked a little. We asked the head waitress to light a candle (regular one not citronella insect repellant one). My husband out a piece of paper to cover his beer from the flies and when the waitress asked if there was a problem with the beer he said it was to keep off the flies and said we hoped it would deter the flies she shrugged her shoulders. We ordered one large pizza diavola with Gorgonzola as extra between two. We were dubious as to the precise origin of the meat topping. We quickly left, and to be honest the staff didnt appear too surprised. The toilets were clean enough, the wine list was comprehensive enough, although crawling with flies as it was read. Dont go get a bowl of chips and a drink somewhere else if you want a snack after your hike.

A very welcoming place with all you need on the spot.We landed at this hotel because all other hotels in our budget range were fully booked! We have been welcome and a very reasonable offer was made immediately. Upon my request I was shown the rooms I had selected. The room were very clean, comfortable with super clean bathroom, double beds for sleeping and ample provision of duvet, blankets and pillows. Although our rooms were on the main street, it was well insulated and we had a quiet night. As I requested a parking for our car, the manager immediately organized a place in the hotel back parking lot. Super service! We ate at the hotel restaurant, well known in town for its Italian cuisine. Service was a bit slow since the restaurant was full and we have been very pleased with pizzas , pasta and selection of Barbera wine. The next morning we enjoyed a nice, complete and tasty breakfast in a small dedicate part of the restaurant. The room prices are very reasonable compared to other hotels of the same category. We appreciated we did not need to go out to eat and drink, etc.. Bus stops in both direction are within 50 meters of the hotel, which is great in the morning rush hours when all tourists want to go to the mountains or the train station which is 10 Mn. down the main road.
