    No No No No No!!!

This hotel has a nice online brochure with fabulous baths and a nice facade. But, when we asked our taxi driver to take us there, he laughed. We should have known. When we got there, it was not like it is pictured on the outside. I'ts not too much different, but you can tell it was dolled up for the picture and they purposely wipe away everything surrounding the building and put it on a whire background. The front desk clerk smirked as we checked in and requested to hold onto our passports. Had it not been 10pm, we would have gone elsewhere. There were a bunch of men in suits in the lobby having animated conversations. I can't know anything for sure, but my husband and I to this day think it was Chinese mafia but I have no way of being sure of this. We went to our room and it was if we were the only people on the floor. They had been painting and it smelled like paint (not a deal breaker) but it was like they were purposely putting us on a floor with no one else to keep us away. The beds were harder than the floor, which isnt too uncommon in parts of Asia, but it added to our discomfort. We wern't in the room for more than 2 minutes when the front desk asked us if we would like some girls sent up to our room for services. Thankfully, my husband declined. We left the following morning at 6am and found another hotel as we were literally being laughed at by the hotel staff.

5min Taxi ride from Shanghai railway station

I booked this hotel on the internet and found the pricing to be reasonable, whereas this hotel is pretty noisy and is next door to some massage parlor and there are always some noisy customers or there is a fight. If you enjoy some street food then across the road from the hotel there is some decent food

    Terrific Value

20 minutes cab or modern day rickshaw ride to the Bund Y50 - Y150 one way depending on the time of day. Surrounded by many small family restaurants, foot massage and shops. Ha ha, there is an unremarkable Starbucks near by. There are a couple of banks. I did have trouble finding one that handled Visa cash. I couldnt figure how to put ATM instructions in English, but one of the bank staff came out and helped. $52 per night with all taxes. . This includes buffet breakfast. Same selection each day, but so what? Something good and reasonably healthy to start the day. The hotel lobbies, floors and rooms are clean. The only big negative is the room rugs need replacing urgent. This may be a big turnoff to some people, But, didnt bother me too much. Should be 4 1/2 rating because of rugs, but I will round high because everything worked for me. I needed laundry done, a plug adapter for my computer and flexibility in maid service. The staff were unbelievably accommodating in an understated manner. They just do it. Oh, it was 100 degrees with humidity and the A/C worked great. Last night was a full house and there was plenty of hot water in the evening and this morning. I cant comment on the internet because I used my phone service at $10 a day extra for international data and text. They accept Visa and some Chinese cards. No Amex.

    Great location

Close to subway, Tesco, restaurants, etc... This is a great value for staying in Shanghai. Again, this is not a western hotel. I'm rating to Chinese standards, but it fits the bill nicely for a discount hotel in the center of Shanghai.

    Tacky

Low budget hotel with amenities that match. Room was very basic and not very clean. Very poor chinese buffet breakfast - food was cold and very little choice offered. Reception staff speak English. Close to railway station but there are other hotels closer for the same price if not cheaper. Would not stay here again as i know I can get a better hotel for the same price.
