    Difficult to fault

This fine old place, with it's ancient beams and history, cleverly combines the old and the new. The room we had was modern, well equiped, comfortable and with a lovely view over the Kentish Weald. Yet you can imagine the notorious Hawkhurst Gang of ruthless smugglers brazenly placing their guns on the tables and defying anyone to challenge them. No doubt the beer was not as good as the Harveys the pub serves today. Obviously the challenge at the moment is to reduce the menu but retain a good choice and give people space. No faults there. All the food, not least the traditional as well as continental breakfast, was excellent. It was a 'full house' when we had dinner but they coped well. This is a gem of a place that deserves support in these difficult times and seems to be getting it.

    An oldie but a goldie

Lovely one night stay at the Star & Eagle Hotel in the delightful Goudhurst. Quaint and quirky old hotel keeping up with modern day requirements and coping well with the Covid restrictions. Enjoyed a tasty cream tea and then a delicious meal in the evening. The room was very comfortable, despite the trek through the old building with its low beams and the service couldn't be faulted with very accommodating staff. Will return!

    Sunday Lunch

This was our first visit. The roast beef was very good and plentiful. As was the entire meal. I seldom write reviews but thought this pub warranted it. Social distancing observed. Definitely recommend

    Never Again

We were meeting friends for Lunch but my prawns were tasteless and the finger bowl too small to use, the piece of lemon almost filled the bowl. Liver was OK but mashed potato was gelatinous. However the service was efficient. When we came to leave a very officious woman said she was locking the door as it was 3.p.m. and we would have to go out via the Churchyard to our cars parked in the road. It was not a short walk for a man who has a Disabled Badge. At no time were we told the doors would be locked to prevent exit into the street and being a Hotel one would expect them to remain open during the afternoon.. . It should be made clear when the doors will be locked to give one the opportunity to leave.

    As always, fab-u-lous

Thanks for our final blowout before lockdown2. The pub was full but everyone was so well spread out and all the right precautions were in place . The food, as always, was excellent and it was lovely to see village friends dotted around supporting their local business in this beautiful pub/ hotel, indeed every room seemed to be in use. We have the takeaway menu and will continue to be ordering at least once a week as I hope lots of us will!
