What a disappointment watch outI stayed three days in august at the St. Virgil Hotel in Salzburg, along with my wife and my son. It is a structure inside a fine park, near the bus stop for the city center. It is a strange building, it seems an ex-school recovered and refurbished as an hotel. After the reception, there is a zone where columns and walls are in cement at sight, in center are positioned some conference room and sideways are positioned some industrial iron staircases to reach the rooms. Ours was well furnished, with modern comforts. Evidently not much used, because we found a midge nest inside the tipical Austrian blanket on the bed. Furthermore, there were several mosquitos squashed against the walls, but there was a new Vape anti-mosquitos, so there wasnt left alive. The breakfast was in a saloon that seemed to me an ex-gymnasium, well provided, but the only waiter struggled to serve the some 30 guest in the room. Moreover, worst of all, I had a discussion at my arrival because they asked me an higher price compared to the written offer, a thing like that never happened to me in my life. In our judgement, it is an horrible hotel, badly directed, nothing to do with the excellent Austrian standard that I know well after several years of vacation in Austria. Regarding Salzburg, we think it is a marvellous city, I advice everybody to visit.

Excellent locationI was there in July 2017. We went on motorcycle and although the was no covered parking, there's lots of parking space. They let us bring the bikes closer to unload and then load our gear. Good hospitality and English spoken too. The single rooms are very small and were originally intended to accommodate people from the church we were told, but service was very good and being so close to downtown Salzburg, we really didn't mind the size of our rooms. Buses are two blocks away and you get to the city center in about 10 minutes. The gardens at the hotel and surrounding area are very beautiful and the view from the breakfast lounge is marvelous. Breakfast is extra but well worth the money with a variety of dishes, coffees, teas, breads, cold cuts and cereals. I would definitely stay there again!

Retreat/conference centre/hotelAn interesting hotel, very clean, very friendly, very basic. It once existed as a monastery and still has many evidences of that past life. The food was excellent and the room very comfortable. Its off the beaten track, set in beautiful grounds, thus very quiet, and very dark at night.

Ugly modern hotelStayed here recently for five nights at a meeting. Room was quite small, especially the bathroom and even more the shower, and not air conditioned. Not unexpected but it was quite hot at night. Place is out of the way and truly ugly. Food was "all natural" but not good. Avoid this place if at all possible!
