AMAZING - St Mellons Hotel Apartment

Wow - Im so impressed!! This apartment was more than perfect for my family weekend away. We stayed at St Mellons Hotel last weekend in the apartment. A very modern and homely feel, with appliances such as microwaves and fridges (which was a bonus)! Myself and my husband had a large double room, my two youngest kids (age 6 & 9) had the other room with bunk beds .. they thought this was great and my eldest son slept on the sofa bed, this was easily made. On the Friday we decided to eat in the apartment after our long journey, but we ate in the Henry Webb restaurant the Saturday evening and we werent disappointed. The food was lovely and the staff were so friendly. Breakfast also 10/10. As we were staying in the hotel we had free use of the leisure club. This included a pool, sauna, jacuzzi and gym. I would defiantly recommend staying in the apartment, perfect for families and really good price too! Thank you St Mellons Hotel, we will be returning!

    Really not great.

I got a bit of a surprise when arriving at the St Mellons Hotel and spa with my partner. The photos on its website are definitely very old or taken just after they bothered to clean the place. When driving down the narrow lane to the hotel there was dumped mattresses, microwaves and a bath in gateways, leading to the hotel entrance (not a great first impression). The exterior was very run down, reception/ bar not much better with very old, dated decor. Not once in my 2 night stay did I see another guest- this may be a reflection on the dated, dirty facilities. The pool, 'spa', area was awful. Very grotty changing area and a yellow/ green tinted pool. I wouldn't call what I saw a 'spa', was more like a gross school leisure centre. The tiles were chipped, grotty and I saw a dirty tissue/ dressing in the steam room. We left, after spending just 10 minutes around the 'spa facilities'. The room itself looked like there was effort made to spruce it up; with more modern bed, bathroom and interior. Overall, I definitely won't be returning to this hotel. The cost for two nights seemed reasonable but had the hotel been better prepared, cleaner and looked after then I'm sure they would have more custom.

    Awful place!!!

So I hired St Mellons hotel to hold my daughters 13th birthday party!! The events manager emailed asking if I wanted a buffet at £10 a head as we were looking at 80 guests, I couldnt afford the £800 plus £175 hall cost, so declined their offer on food (plus their food rating is only a 2) anyway the party approached and I popped into the hotel to pay my remaining balance, when there I asked the lady on reception how many tables were there for guests and for me to put food on, to which she replied Im not sure il get the events manager to email you!! She never did!! So the day of the party comes & myself and my friend go to set up the hall & take the food over, as soon as we walk in the events manager rudely tells me that You cant bring food into the venue!! I tell her that I wasnt aware of that rule and that no one had told me, for her to rudely tell me well its not my job to inform you that, you should of asked!! Then she tried to tell me that she had emailed me to tell me that, to which I got my emails up & continue to ready EVERY email to her! To which not once has she mentioned it to me!! Her attitude was disgusting & kept saying to myself and my friend at the end of the day I speak to lots of people every day & its not my job to be emailing you to inform you of things! My friend polity said as well that we had organised a funeral there three years before and we had done our own catering!! And the lady basically called her a liar!! However after long conversations with her stinking attitude & me asking to speak to some one higher than herself & her refusing to!! She did let me have my own food, but then said you cant bring drinks in as I need to make money from this party!!! So I agreed to that as what else could I do the party was in a few hours!! They then charged me £40 for 16 jugs of squash!! Walked back into the building just before the party & a man said can you pay the £40 or I cant put the swish out!! Even he continued to question me bringing food in and saying well you dont bring your own beer to a pub do you!! Its common sense?? So I paid the £40 and they wasnt even jugs they looked like small flower vases!! Absolute waste of money!! The staff continued to be rude all night! When at the bar the bar man snatched money of the bar when the children were trying to pay for cans of coke!! The staff were rude to the children! We were having dirty looks from staff!! It was just awful behaviour from them!! Absolutely shocking!! Never again will I even think about holding anything at this venue again!!! Plus there was water as well coming in from the rain in the bar thought the roof!! No wonder why the place is dead!! Nothing like it used to be, it used to be a lovely place!! Really gone down hill!!

Nice place, rooms are a little tired

Stayed here for business. Booked through online website and check in was no problem. Staff were attentive. I ate in the bar as no one was in the restaurant. Unfortunately there was a kids party and there were teenagers running around everywhere. Getting a receipt for my evening meal proved a bit tricky but was emailed the following day.

    Frustrating and upsetting!

The best thing that could happen is for this place to stay closed! Shabby rooms, bar was closed, food looked like it had been microwaved for hours on end and the spa... what a joke. The worst beauty treatment I have ever had. The staff were grumpy and looked very much over worked and under payed. When I raised these issues with managment they simply did not want to know and were very unprofessional! As I now have time on my hands I would like to warn people! Don not waste your time or money here. Our experience was both very frustrating and upsetting!
