Nice HotelOver night stay. Nice room. Everywhere clean and tidy. Very friendly helpful staff. Nice free toiletries . We had a standard Double room which was nice and had a lovely en suite bathroom. We had some drinks in the bar and the staff were pleasant and chatty

A lovely weekend starWe stayed here for two nights. A lovely hotel which has been refurbished to a high standard. An additional bonus for us was the car parking at the rear of the hotel, NOTE - you must book this early as once full, you have to find additional parking. The breakfast was brilliant, with a choice of cereals, fruit, ham and cheese and pastries, along with a choice of cooked breakfasts. The room was a good size, as was the bathroom. The bar area was lovely, if a little underused as the hotel is in a great location in the heart of Harrogate.

5/10 ExperienceThis was a last minute trip booked through Secret Escapes as we should have been in Spain, so it was booked only a few days before arrival. We had recently stayed at the Bath hotel and had an impeccable stay, so it seemed like an easy choice for us. Firstly on arrival, they didn't have our reservation booked in - we were told to go and sit at the bar and someone would find us in 10-15 minutes once all resolved and booked in. After 25 minutes we had heard nothing so headed back to reception to be told "oh that was done ages ago". We wasn't aware that we had to book parking - so had to park offsite on both days as they had "overbooked already" Which seemed surprising at the hotel never felt that busy whilst we were there. The package we booked included cream tea, prosecco in the room breakfast, dinner and stays in the Superior rooms. To be honest, I am not sure that the room we were assigned was a superior room or not, it felt a lot less superior than the room we stayed in in Bath in terms of size - but that may have just been the hotel. I found it very difficult to tell on their website what actually constituted the difference in price between the two room types and whether we got what we paid for or not. Room was nice, more on the cosy side. The location of the dressing table was terrible, tucked away in a dark corner - almost impossible to do your makeup in the mirror gloomy March. Room wasn't cleaned fantastically, considering we made our beds, there was dirty glasses still left out. Our dinner experience was okay, we had a smaller menu to pick from as it being part of our package. The restaurant didn't have many people dining but in a large restaurant everyone was seated next to each other. Because there wasn't many people you could hear everyone's conversations and it was a bit odd! Food came out worryingly quick if I'm honest - within about 2 minutes of ordering (not exaggerating) our starters were at our table before our drinks had even arrived. And our mains arrived just as we had finished our starters. Our whole 3 course dining experience was over in less than 45 minutes - making me seriously doubt that any part of that meal was prepared to order. We were told a couple of times after we had finished dessert that "we're closing now" it was only 8.30pm and still had our wine to finish off. The whole experience felt a little bizarre whilst the food was nice. Cream tea in the afternoon was a nice touch - although we did have to go and find staff as the bottom floor of the hotel while huge felt dead and souless. Sadly the experience we had in Bath wasn't the same as Harrogate and wouldn't revisit. The package we found for this was the only saving grace as if we had paid full rates, I think we would have been bitterly disappointed.

This is a nice hotel! My wife & I checked into the St George last Friday (13th March), we had arrived a little earlier than I had anticipated so I was pleasantly surprised to be told by reception that our upgraded room was ready. I had booked a car parking space which at £10.00 per night is expensive but so convenient as the hotel is right in the centre of Harrogate. The staff are very friendly and are quite chatty, our room was on the first floor and we were directed to it by the receptionist. It was quite fortuitous that my wife & I are relatively fit as there was no offer of help in getting our bags upstairs as the lift was not working! We met a lady who seemed to be a regular visitor who said that the lift had never been working while she was staying. We found Room 121 at the end of a 1st floor corridoor. The room is decorated in a silver/grey colour and looks very attractive with matching bed decoration etc. The room was an upgraded room and offered all the extras that one would expect except a fridge. There was a coffee machine which delivered the foulest tasting coffee that decided us there and then that we'd head for the M&S cafe as soon as we were unpacked. Whilst checking in we were asked what time we would like to have our dinner that night. We decided on 7.00pm on the basis that we would have a couple of drinks prior to dinner. We were on a DBB deal with the hotel and it also included a 10% discount and a bottle of wine the first evening. We disappeared into Harrogate for the rest of that 1st afternoon. At about 6.15 pm we headed for the bar and had a drink, the staff are very professional and all are dressed in a Waistcoat, shirt & Jeans combination. One thing that the hotel lacks is atmosphere, I am not suggesting that "elevator" music is missing but something to bring it all together is needed. We headed into the restaurant which is a cavernous place, we were greeted at the door and escorted to our table. We had the wine delivered and we chose our dinner from a very limited menu (you can choose to have the A La Carte menu and if you are on a DBB basis you will get credit against your choices) We decided to stick to the limited menu and we were not to be disappointed. The food is exceptionally good, it was well presented, it tasted delicious and the amount of food per course was just right. My only criticism is that the staff are trying to move you through the Restaurant as quickly as possible, they are very efficient in removing your empty plates and bringing your next course. Possibly too efficient as you do not have a relaxed dinner. It is a pity really because there is not much wrong with this hotel and with a little extra training you would have a hotel that is hard to beat. Our experience of breakfast was just as good - the full English was very filling. Dinner on our second evening was as good as our first experience for taste & presentation but still rushed.
