  Busy weekend when we went but we had a good stay

  Three of us needed a room for the night and the only room available here was the king suite. It had a king bed and a sleeper couch. The bathroom needed a vanity or something to put our clean clothes on after showering as the basin /vanity is not in the bathroom, but outside the bathroom. Im guessing this is a quirk of a Springhill Suite. There was free breakfast but it only started at 7am and we needed to be at our event by 7:15am and the staff were not friendly about us taking cereal or fruit or pastries while they were still setting them out. The hotel is within easy walking distance to a few decent restaurants.

  Outside rooms are noisy

  Room was very modern and clean. However the rooms that are overlooking Hampton Blvd are very very noisy making it hard to get a good nights sleep. I would stay here again if I could be sure I would get a courtyard room. Bring some ear plugs just in case.

  Improper treatment at check-in

  I am presently in the hotel. I arrived around 5:00 pm. At the check-in counter, there was a supervisor training a trainee. The person being waited on had a complex check-in issue -- she wanted to pay by check for three rooms. While the supervisor was teaching the trainee how to deal with this, my wife and I had to wait in line for 15 minutes. The trainee was having difficulty with this check-in; the supervisor was using this check-in as a teaching lesson. This is not how to treat hotel guests such as us waiting to check in -- that we had to wait until the trainee learned how to deal with an unusual, complex check-in. There were two terminals at the desk. I asked if couldn't my wife and I be checked in on the other terminal and was told no -- the trainee is in training. Clearly, the supervisor could have asked the complex guest to wait while she would check my wife and me in, but that was not done. We were made to wait until the trainee completed the complex check-in. Or the supervisor could have dealt with the complex check-in herself, and not prolonged it by teaching the trainee. To add insult to injury, when it was our turn, the trainee asked me what brought us to Norfolk. This is an impertinent inquiry into the personal affairs of a guest. I refused to answer the question. Finally, the supervisor explained how to connect to the Wi-Fi very quickly and I had to ask her to repeat it slowly. The one bedroom suite I am in has a lot of space and a full-sized refrigerator.

  Great Location, Wonderful Stay

  Staff is great, the breakfast is very good and has lots of options for a buffet. ALWAYS STRAWBERRIES!!! Love that... There are quite a few good restaurants in walking distance from this hotel, and it is across from the chartway center, making access there quite easy.... and did I say that the staff is great!??!!

  Location, Location, Location AND very nice rooms!

  First and foremost, this hotel is ON the Old Dominion University campus. It is a perfect place to stay for any visit to ODU. Easily walkable distances to the whole campus. And nicely located 1/2 block from the main restaurant street. But what puts it over the top is the room layout. This is not your normal double bed and a bathroom layout. Each room/suite has a nice sitting room area with a sofa, desk, and cabinet area with refrigerator and microwave. Our room also had two (2!) closets for hanging clothes. The staff were also all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet was average, but staff kept it clean and looking great. It's not a 5-star hotel, but for what we paid (quite reasonable, even with the extra $8 for parking), it exceeded my expectations and provided the foundation for a very nice visit to ODU! I strongly recommend it. Note: I had a room on the south side of the building, not on Hampton Blvd. No noise on that side.
