  Beautiful view and fantastic room

  My young daughter and I traveled from Melbourne to Tasmania for a gymnastics competition in Kingston. We stayed for 2 nights and found the rooms very spacious and really comfortable. The room and bathroom was clean and there was toiletries and nice clean towels and the shower was good. Fully stocked mini bar which included snacks and chocolates. The beds were comfortable and warm and the heating worked great. We had a lovely dinner in the hotel on our second night. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The sports stadium was just across the road so this really was the perfect location for us. Definitely five stars for the Southern Lights Hotel.

  Southern Delight

  Visited this fine hotel with a group of car enthusiasts for a lunch and was pleasantly surprised. The choice of menu on offer for a "Seniors Meal" was quite well received with the option of paying for a one course, two course or three course meal package. Most people on our table chose two courses. The main course offered was either chicken, steak or fish, all were well presented with a good size. I had the steak which was cooked to perfection (medium rare) there was also a good selection of deserts. Staff was very friendly and efficient. Drink prices at the bar were reasonable bordering on cheap. We will definitely put this place on our list for future reference and will be back.

  Good stay

  Motel is starting to show signs of age but is a good option for exploring area, particularly for Burny Island. Restaurant had recently reopened after water damage and bar has good selection of wine and beer. Rooms are basic but clean. Cracks starting to appear in walls, may need further maintenance soon.

  Lunch was just what we wanted

  My wife and I had to visit Kingston to get a generator repaired. We dropped it off then went looking for lunch somewhere. A relative had lunched at this hotel last year and recommended it. We had the "seniors" special with a choice of: just a main; entree (soup) and main; main and dessert, or entree, main and dessert. We had the lot and the only slight glitch is that we were close to being overfull. We thought it good value - and we won't need much tea tonight!

  We were not disappointed.

  This hotel is under new management. Has a great location overlooking the busy town of Kingston in beautiful Tasmania. We were a group of 6, including 2 teenagers, and went for dinner on a week night. Staff very polite and attentive. All of us basically cleaned our plates. Good selection of seafood and meat dishes. Chips were nice and crisp and hot. Good selection of desserts which the teenagers enjoyed. The rest of us couldnt fit it in. A tasty evening out.
