  Lovely getaway between lockdowns

  Having decided last minute to book a night away at a good quality hotel and spa we found South Lodge and following some time reading reviews we booked a room for the following night, along with dinner. Upon arrival we were impressed with the parking availability, and the grandeur of the hotel building. When entering the reception area there was a temperature check station and as well as hand sanitizing station. Staff had masks on. This all made us feel comfortable that the hotel were taking the safety of staff and guests seriously. Check in was quick and easy. Our room was in the original part of the building which meant creaky floors and drafty windows which I suppose is all part of the experience! The main light in the shower area wasn't working, a handyman was prompt in replacing the bulb following a call to reception. There was a fair amount of noise from the corridor as the doors where quite thin. We had dinner in the restaurant in the spa area. The food was good but the set up was strange. Due to covid the numbers were restricted, however all guests were wedged in one half of the restaurant rather than being spaced out which would have surely been a better way to manage the situation. We were so close to other guests it was hard to have our own conversation. Whilst half the restaurant was completely empty! Breakfast the next day was excellent, luckily we had just finished before the fire alarms went off and we all had to evacuate the building for 10 minutes or so. Others weren't quite so lucky! Check out was prompt, and we spend the rest of the afternoon in the Spa. Each area had restricted numbers which was left to guests to comply. Whilst we were there all guests respected the numbers. It took quite a while for us to get a slot in the outdoor pool as others were quick to get in as soon as other guests departed. The spa area was spotless, the changing rooms were super clean and love the leather sofa's and tv! All in all, it was a lovely break and we would stay again, although possibly in the newer part of the hotel next time!

  Good getaway - spa makes the hotel!

  Stayed for 2 nights between lockdowns for our babymoon. Hotel was warm and welcoming, room was large with bath in room - in the stable wing of the property. More modern than other rooms in the hotel. You could hear the room above you every night - this affected us on the first night, but on the second we were informed that no one was in the room above, so a much more comfortable stay - otherwise we would have asked to move. Breakfast we had at the Spa restaurant - spa is outstanding. Spent our days relaxing by the pools, in the spa, and in the gym - this spa really makes the hotel, and we would return purely for the spa.

  Fab escape

  We had a lovely couple of nights away - just the tonic needed. The room was fantastic - very spacious with a great view and nice big bathroom (we stayed in the Admiral room). The spa was great. Everything open which is a huge factor atm - thermal suite, pool, outside jacuzzi. We booked a few treatments which were divine. All of the spa therapists were very friendly and super at what they do making you relax instantaneously. We had room service breakfast each morning to avoid the covid compliances. This was fantastic each day - you order on an ipad the night before which makes it seamless (only downfall is that it's hard to order beverages (e.g 2 juices as it brings up the whole drinks menu and selects hot drinks too) The hotel was very clean and covid safe - sanitising stations everywhere, temperature checks at reception and spa, and all the staff wore masks. All of the staff were great and helpful. We look forward to returning in the future! :)

  Fabulous Christmas Break

  Just back from an amazing Christmas break at South Lodge. Couldnt fault any part of our stay from beginning to end and cant wait to return. Staff, food, location - everything first class The hotel did everything in their power to make Christmas special, despite the restrictions placed upon them, and we would recommend them unreservedly

  Christmas saved

  Stayed 2 night from Christmas Eve. Package included afternoon tea and dinner on Christmas Eve. Christmas Day breakfast and lunch. All meals included copious wine. Hamper gift delivered to room in the evening. Junior suite with view was super with our own little Christmas tree. Staff hugely welcoming and friendly. Thoughtful gifts throughout our stay, made the whole experience joyous in these difficult covid times. Would absolutely recommend and we plan to return.
