    Pesima atencion

    Work related

Very nice hotel. Very clean. Friendly staff. Little expansive food but its good. Did not get sick lol. It is an upscale hotel, one of the best in Ouagadougou. Good security that consists of several armed guards with constant roving patrol around the entire perimeter. High metal fences not easy to penetrate. Very nice pool and hot tub with tiki bar. Highly suggest staying at this hotel if you visiting Ouagadougou. I stayed there 3 weeks and it was very nice experience.

Safe & clean hotel and honest staff

I come very often to Burkina Faso and I always stay at Sopatel Silmande. Due to the fence around it and the strict security measures with heavily armed guards, it is a very safe location in a beautiful country which is unfortunately facing a very volatile security situation. The rooms are clean and relatively comfortable ; the restaurant is good and the hotel staff is polite, efficient, professional and honest. I want to share an anecdote as a proof of professionalism: I forgot my AirPods 15 days ago and the concierge gave them back to me today. The best proof that Burkina Faso really means the land of honest people. Such AirPods are quite expensive back in Europe but here although it would take them one or two months worth of salary to be able to have such gadgets, they prefer to be honest and give them back to the customer.

    Never again

I hope to never stay here again, and will be requesting that the US Department of State take this hotel off their recommended list for official business. The staff are, frankly, lazy. I am currently here for roughly a month for work. Initially they attempted to put me in a room on the 8th floor which obviously had not been used in quite some time. The Air Conditioning did not work, there was no toilet paper, many of the lights did not work, the door would not close unless it was slammed, I did not have hot water, no towels in the room, and the refrigerator did not work. I requested a new room and was initially told there were no other rooms available. It wasn't until myself and the group I was with all threatened to leave that several rooms on the 5th floor magically became available. At the restaurant, service takes much longer than it should. Generally you need to flag down the staff yourself in order to receive any service. Even then they will regularly take 30 minutes or more to do something as simple as bringing a drink or check when the restaurant is empty. Make sure to check your bill and take pictures of it. They will regularly try to add additional items to your bill if you aren't aware of the exchange rate. If you charge anything to your room, take a picture of the check and compare it to what you are actually charged, as they will attempt to add items to your check after the fact and claim it was what you signed for. I spent almost an hour arguing this with hotel staff, as they tried to charge me for meals and drinks at the pool on a day where I was gone from the hotel the entire day. They only corrected this when I demanded that they pull up their security camera footage to prove I had been at the pool. Another member of my party had meals charged to his room without a name and signature that obviously wasn't his, yet they refused to drop them from the bill. The restaurant manager was called inside and claimed he personally saw him have these meals and saw him sign for them. Another member of our group who does not drink, was charged for drinks and they refused to drop them from his bill. The cleaning staff will regularly skip aspects of their work. My room has never actually been cleaned during my entire stay. They replace the towels, make the bed, and empty the trash. Occasionally they will remember to replace toiletries. No vacuuming or actual cleaning. My refrigerator does not work, and this has not been corrected despite two request. The drains in the bathroom drain extremely slowly, to the point that I have to take showers as quickly as possible to avoid them overflowing. The hot water pot provided in the room had old water or tea in it that was growing mold when I first occupied the room. I regularly find bugs in the room as well. The showers have two temperatures, hot and cold. There is no in between. Either it is too hot to stand under, or it is ice cold. The internet is limited to 5gb per individual login. Once this is used, you have to go to the front desk to get a new login. This is a pain, as one elevator has been broken my entire stay. You also need to use your key to access any floor other than the ground floor, and the keys will regularly need to be re-magnetized (almost every time I leave the hotel grounds despite keeping it away from all items that can strip the magnetization). The breakfast buffet is mediocre at best. Most of the time the "fresh" fruit is obviously old (brown spots, going bad, partially rotting). Tables aren't bussed regularly and most times you will need to ask for any kind of silverware, cup, or napkin. The coffee is all instant coffee, unless you order an omelet the eggs are watery, and much of the food is obviously left overs from the previous day (or longer) until it is all gone. The "fitness center" is nothing but broken equipment and a few old free weights. Using every bit of weight in the gym on the bench press adds up to less than 200lbs. The cardio equipment is all broken. The pictures used are stock images, as the fitness center here is in the basement and has no windows. Upon arriving we ended up buying a spray bottle and some bleach, as the gym had black mold on the walls and smells terrible. The "nightclub" in the hotel has apparently not been open in almost a year. My next trip to Ouagadougou, I will absolutely not be staying here and I will recommend to anyone that asks that they find a different place to stay. This place is truly terrible.
