Only if you are over 65.I do Germany quite a bit with Business so i'm fairly well up on what to expect with hotels.Nothing prepared my for this glimpse into a nursing home. Before you stop reading let's just get things straight. The hotel is absolutely fine.I had a suite (4 days) - a few euros more than a double room - and this get's you a segregated sleeping area. The rooms are large - decent fridge- and all the windows open ( are you listening Ireland ?).The pool - sauna area is up there with the best i've seen in any 5* hotels. But the guests.- Oh dear. They were all into their 70's - plenty of zimmer frames or walking around in nightgowns.Very disturbing. The whole area, and there are plenty of hotels to choose from, seems to be a sort of retirement village. The old dears stampede the restuarant at 17.50 and vanish off to play bingo at 19.30.The whole place is empty then. The food is excellent as it is in most of Germany. The hotel is in two parts seperated by a quiet road. One part opens during the day and then the other bit takes over during the evening.Bit difficult trying to get a drink late afternoon but you can always pour it yourself as there is a beer pump in reception.I kid you not. There is nothing to do in bad Bevensen so get a car and pop into Luneburg.

Pleasantly surprisedStayed at the hotel with my wife from Friday to Sunday as part of a Danish Smartbox package. The place is in no way expensive so we didn't know what to expect but we were very pleasantly surprised. The room we got were actually a small apartment with lots of space, a fridge, a bathroom with a proper bath, a small living room and a huge bedroom. Even a terrace which would probably have been nice in summer. Everything seemed recently renovated. Had dinner Friday evening in the restarant which served an Italian buffet which was not great but still OK. The service was quick and friendly. Afterwards the very quiet bar which served nice drinks. Saturday we tried the spa which had an excellent indoor swimming pool. A nice breakfast buffet. Overall the hotel was very quiet but this may have been because of its location in Bad Bevensen, a spa/hospital town without any nightlife. It is definitely a hotel that has ambitions and is trying its best.

Golf and GourmetStayed three nights for a combined golf and gourmet vacation. It was difficult to believe that Bad Bevensen was a rather large town when driving ni from Hamburg. It looked liked we were completely out on the countryside! However it is a nice place and it has lots of possiblities. Extremely welcoming staff that makes you feel good already at arrival! The room was decent, although there was a smell of "old curtains" about the entire floor where we stayed. Very nice balcony, although it was missing a markise to allow sitting outside when raining or being too hot in the sun. The food was good and tasty both in the morning and in the evening. However quite old fashioned, adapted to the elderly clients. There was no doubt the whole place is suited for elderly or ill people. The ambulances were running approximately five times a day and also the cardiac arrest helicopter arraived one of the days. One day we had a complimentary tour with an old bus/train driving us past all the hospitals, clinics and other places for typical illnesses for elderly people. This was a nice experience, and us being 50+ felt like pure youngsters on that ride!We were lacking a shuttle to the golf course, which is about two kilometers away, but we had our own car to use. The golf course is very challenging and in good shape. we were though missing course guides and a putting green and a place to train the sand shots. It is a very tight course that requires precise shots on all holes! The wellness facilities were open at our own discretion also in the evening until 9pm. This was nice. We went there after dinner and had a swim, a sauna, a steam sauna etc. No staff in the evening though, so it was very relaxing and quiet. I think that there are many places combining golf and gourmet and wellness, and we will not be coming back, since there are so many good alternatives to try out. It was all nice and tidy but when you are looking for gourmet, you want to move one step up from this.

The area around the village Bad Bevensen is beatiful. The golf Courses was in perfect condition this year. We Will return next year. Johan

whilst the rooms are tired, there are lots of good things about this placewe stayed 3 nights for a wedding and lots of things about the hotel lent themselves to making it work. The outside space is really nice - both the balcony around the restaurant and the gardens. The bar is small but quite cosy and the food good - whilst the breakfast was ok the food we had for the wedding breakfast was really nice and I can only assume prepared in their own kitchen. All of the rooms have little balconies and it's generally a quiet hotel. The down side was the rooms are dated and lacked a safe which I presumed we'd have. The pool, in the building across the hotel is small. However, it's a walk of about 15 minutes into the centre and a lovely walk at that. For the location, access and general friendliness of staff, I'm happy to rate this as very good.
