  Post War/ Sub standard Hotel

  Whilst the location at the back of the lake is wonderful and Ohrid lake is a hidden gem awaiting to be discovered, the service is poor. I would defenitively reccomend a visit to Ohrid Macedonia however in the interesthas of Health and Safety avoid this Hotel at all costs. The doot frame had parts missing , the flushing has been in service for more than 20 years. The cherry on the cake is the restaurant, whilst its location is fantastic since it overlooks the lake, most of the plates are broken and the waiters do not have an idea how to serve food. The timing is impeccable the food is prepared at 1900 hrs and removed at 2100 hrs thus if you want to eat warm food ensure to eat at 1900 hrs since otherwise you'll end up eating a cold plate at 2000 hrs and cold food at 2100 hrs (if any is left). Food warmers are yet to be discovered in this hotel and it is useless to bring it to the attention of the head waiter since he'll surely reply that food is served at 1900 hrs!!!! Best joke is the free WIFI connection boasted by the hotel, whilst I confirm its existance do not count too much on the connection from your room, best connection is established from the lobby. Meantime if you are left with no option and you have to stay in this hotel, try to close your eyes before entering the building and make you to take a lot of excursion to stay away from this hotel as much as possible. Ideally avoid eating in this hotel since two of my colleagues managed to undertake a crash diet and lost a few pounds !!! As previously stated the country has nice food, a wonderful location and hidden treasures to be discovered (reccomend a vsiit to the open market - there's a lady selling leather goods which would surely help you secure a good bargain).

  Comunist era hotel on the lakeshore

  We celebrated 2012 New Year at Slavija Spectar Hotel and stayed there for 3 nights. The hotel is situated just outside of the town of Ohrid on the very shore of the lake. Taxi to downtown takes around 10 minutes and cost about 5 EUR, by foot the distance to downtown would probably take around an hour. Our room was about 10 m2 of size, partially renovated. TV set produced annoying buzzing sound and was practically unusable. There were small refrigerator below TV set, which we did not use. There was central heating and an air conditioner. Both together were able to achieve comfortable temperature in the room. Upon our arriving, we noticed the walls were very cold as it seems the hotel was not used during the winter period. Together with the pound size hole below the window it could explain why we needed so massive heating. We had problems with hot water in the bath - 2 days it was just warm and one day it was hot enough for a shower. The hotel buffet is moderate in quantity and quality, but has all usual meals for breakfast. The staff is very polite and cooperative, even when we spoke to them in Bulgarian language. One funny fact is that when you want mineral water, you need to specify it should not be soda, otherwise by default you end up with soda. The hotel's beach was relatively small, partially rocky partially sandy. The lake water seemed very clear and the locals said it reach 20-25 degrees in the summer. The hotel has word "lux" on its billboard but I would recommend it to someone, who don't mind slight par below standards but would enjoy being on the lake shore and 10 minutes away from the town of Ohrid.

  Great Hotel

  This hotel was great for me:the food is awesome,i was in camp 2012 basketball and i was room number 1 and i had jacuzi :) Really good for camping and really great beach i must say.A bit far from the center of Ohrid but still a good 7 day camp.Havent tried the swimming pool but in the lake was awesome :)

  Back in time

  Depending on what you expect and what you have as an idea for the region, the hotel may like or dislike you - it is a former residence of the past ruling class, which although renovated, is not a perfection. But most places in the area are in the same condition, so relax and enjoy the stay. The location is excellent, right on the lake with great view. The service and the food are also very good.
