Great accommodation at Sun Moon LakeThe quad room is great value for money. Location is very convenient along the shopping street. The rooms are very clean & modern with comfortable beds. Bathroom is furnished with a nice tub. They offer tickets to the Formosan Aboriginal amusement park at around 30% discount from the rack rate. Altogether a very pleasant stay.

Pluses and minusesFirst of all, if you book Skylight B&B, note that it is not in the largest village on Sun Moon Lake (where the bus will drop you off) but directly across the lake, Itasho. Somehow we missed that point and were confused when we arrived. In the end, we enjoyed being in Itasho although it was less convenient for transportation. Skylight was nice in many ways (clean, attractive room, HUGE bathtub, very quiet, wonderful view from the breakfast room). The problems we had were all related with staff not being present when we needed help and some language challenges. Although I speak pretty good Chinese, I dont read it. And, all of the controls for the lights and the thermostat in our room were entirely in Chinese....once we figured out that we were very cold in our room and went down to get help, no one was there. We had to spend the night in cold room with a light on, as we couldnt figure out the light controls either! When someone was present in the morning, she said she couldnt leave the desk to show us how these controls worked....it was mid-afternoon before we finally got someone to show us how to turn down the air and warm up the room. Another time we wanted to buy boat tickets (they sell discounted boat tickets, which is very nice), but no one was at the desk so we had to wait some time and delay our start on the day......Finally, we wanted to check out at 9:15am and leave our luggage to go off for a few hour excursion...but no one was at the desk! So we had to change our plans for that day. Perhaps the hotel was going through an unusual staffing shortage when we visited. When we checked in we were told that no one would be at the desk after 9pm and that seemed reasonable....I would encourage them to find a way to provide a more consistent presence and staff with better English skills for foreign travelers.

Fair Stay OnlyI have chosen this hotel is mainly because of the positive comments read from tripadvisor.com. I went with my friends in a small group of 8. And I have copied the positive comments (in Chinese version) to my friends to let them know that how good is this hotel. In fact, my experience is not that good. I think this hotel is more suitable for couples or lovers to stay. Room size is small, only the bath tank is spacious for couples and can watch TV through the big glass window. I stay with my friend and feel uncomfortable because the curtain is not able to cover the whole window properly which makes me feel embrassed since I am using the shower instead of the bath tank (saving water) and right at the standing position of the shower is the edge of the curtain and the glass window which left a gap. As for breakfast, choices are little. My most unhappy experience is that, we bought 8 cable car tickets, each ticket costsTWD250 from the reception and only came to notice that the tickets are marked "complimentary, not for sale". Even though we still can take the cable car, we think the reception or the hotel is not honest.

So That's Why They're Rated 9+I booked this one from months back for our wedding anniversary and wifey's birthday. I really studied the hotels nearby. Ratings & reviews drew me to this BB place. When we got there, the location really impressed me because it was in the middle of the market and street food stalls.... BUT the lobby looked class, well kept and safe. The receptionist was very accommodating, so there was no trouble checking in. Up the room was quiet. Room and bathroom was impressively clean. Though i could somehow smell that someone smoked cigarettes here. Room size was small but manageble. Bathroom had enough space... and with a decent bath tub. No view though. But it was a minute walk from the lake so no problemo. The blinds had molds, so it needs to be cleaned or replaced. Breakfast was very good and has a good view of the lake. A lazy stroll to the rope way is a bonus and at the same time you will get to see most of the village Check out and into a 1 minute walk to the boat was good. Reception & Service: 9 Room Size: 9 Cleanliness: 9 Breakfast: 9 Overall Rating: 9+ Will i stay here again: Big Yes Will i recommend: Yes

So nice.We had to leave before breakfast and the front desk made us a go bag of lattes and a small loaf of fresh raisin but bread. Very thoughtful. Location is good. You are right in the middle of the action.
