  An ok hotel if skiing, but otherwise don't expect much.

  The hotel is also known as the Kwan-Park Sports Complex and as its name implies concentrates mainly on winter sports with a ski lift on the roof being the start of one of the runs. If you are staying here during the winter, Im sure all would be fine as the hotel facilities are geared towards this. However if your intending to stay outside of the ski season or not wanting to ski and just looking for a hotel in Kaluga, then think again before booking this hotel. The access road to the hotel is absolutely dreadful, not only is it full of holes which cars have to drive around, but if you wish to walk, then think again as the road is extremely dirty and very unpleasant. Being a ski resort the hotel is also out of town, so if your looking for city based activities then best go elsewhere. The hotel itself is only just ok, the public areas are a little dated and in places worn and needing attention. There are two lifts to the upper floors, but when I was there only one was working. Breakfast is buffet style and adequate with plenty of choice, except for yoghurt which I didn't see the whole time I was there. Rooms are large by western hotel standards but like elsewhere in the hotel, generally dated and in need of modernization. One other problem encountered was unfortunately typical for Russia, and that was the general attitude to customer service. Although the staff always did as asked, it was always done with a long face and never with a smile. Training of hotel staff still has a long way to go, so if staying here don't expect more than is absolutely necessary from the staff. Overall if here in the winter for skiing, I'm sure the hotel would be a different place, but staying as I did out of the skiing season, then don't expect more than the minimum and best look elsewhere.

  Water pool and Sauna included

  We were 2 couples staying at Kwan in the end of May. Kwan had 50% discount for the rooms due to summer season is less busy than winter. Water pool and sauna were included in the price of the rooms (in case those are booked from Kwan's web site). Everything is huge and large in the hotel. Location is wonderful, a bit outside from the city, but with a great view on it.

  Smelly rooms

  There is no syphone under the sink, so there is quite smelly in the rooms. The environment is nice, and the ski yard on the top of the building is a perfect idea. But the smelly room ruins everything.

  Skiing from the hotel roof!

  SK Royal Kaluga hotel provides an innovative approach to build skiing facilities joining together the inclined roof of the hotel and the natural slope to the bank of the river. Many ski ressorts near Moscow erect artificial hills near natural slopes to elongate the ski pistes. But SK Royal Kaluga ski ressort uses the hotel building itself instead of the hill! It makes skiing very comfortable: you can use the hotel lift from your room to the starting point of the piste. The total legth of the pist from the hotel roof is 400 m. Just at the end of the building, where starts the natural slope, there is beautiful restorant "At slope" ( ), where you can enjoy meals and observe what is happening on the piste.

  Great place to stay in Kaluga

  A bit away from the downtown, great view, nice clean and big rooms, good breakfast service. For relaxation, use a small pool and sauna/hamam. All in all, great experience, totally recommended for any duration visit. For a restaurant, can't say much, cause we only used breakfast which was totally fine.
