Even allowing for COVID, not quite good enough

Overall: a slightly disappointing stay, even allowing for reasonable COVID-19 alterations; with good food but dated rooms and decidedly average service. Good: Food. The food here was probably the best Ive had in any all inclusive restaurant. Really well cooked Cretan classics. Very impressed. This was also closer to the beach than it looks on the map, and theres an easy bus stop into central Chania if you havent rented a car. Average: Service, even allowing for COVID-19 distancing and changes, was not brilliant. Staff were a little surly, not all that friendly, and not great generally. In particular the cleaning was frustrating. We were very accepting of the reduced cleaning rota for the rooms, but leaving three dirty coffee cups on the table for a week? Not really acceptable. Also would have been nice to check that the air con was working prior to our arrival. Bad: Value. We paid around 1500 for just the room including 550 for an upgrade to a private pool. What we got for this was a fairly average looking hotel (our third trip to Chania so we know whats good/normal), a poor all inclusive drinks list, and a very dated suite. The TV was useless (15 years old, tiny and pointing away from anywhere youd be able to see it), the furnishings were basic and the private pool was in the shade almost the entire day so really too cold to use. Conclusion: if youre a family, looking for a hotel close to Chania with good food, and you can find this hotel at a discount, its probably OK. If youre looking for anything more then adequate, keep looking.

    Sirios Village absolutely recommended

We had a lovely stay for two weeks at Sirios Village. The staff was very friendly, helpful and hardworking, and the food was excellent. Our room was clean and nice with very good matresses. The poolareas were very attractive.

    Didnt blow me away

First of all, there is nothing terribly wrong with this hotel. But its advertised as a 4* and so I was comparing it to other 4*s that I have stayed in. Personally Id say its a 3/3.5* max. There are just lots of little things that I expect to have included in a 4*, and I didnt I travelled alone during the pandemic. I was kind of surprised that on arrival my temperature wasnt taken. And not once throughout my whole stay! Just thought that would be a basic check to have in place. No body told me about mask rules either. Everyone wore them in the main restaurant until they were seated at the table. Most people also wore them when they went up to the bar to get a drink. I had a room in the main building (#109) which was above the main restaurant and overlooked the pool. No noise issues thankfully. The room does need some modernisation. Furniture is old wood. Cheap plastic hangers. You even have to pay for the safe? The tv was awful, maybe 2 English channels and a bad picture. Bathroom was ok, but my god the fan in there was so loud. There was a stand alone shower that flooded every time i used it. If youre short then you are going to have trouble hooking the shower onto its cradle. Im 5ft 8 and I had to reach. Saying that the balcony was nice and roomy and nice to have view of the pools. The staff are friendly enough and they all work super hard. Same staff are there from sun up to sun down. Pools were very nice 2 very large pools on the main area and there is also a kids pool with water slides. They were clean and well maintained. There was a lifeguard but most of the time he went round picking up any empty cups or rubbish. I did notice he disinfected the sun beds though, which was good. There was no bar service to your subbed though, so you do have to get up and order one. There was also ALOT of kids playing in the pools, which is fine but I felt like they took over. It would be nice if one of the main pools was adults only perhaps. If you want a quiet swim you wont get that here. The beach is lovely but it is a good 15 min walk. You have to walk out the back of the hotel and down a residential road. It is a very steep hill and there is no path, so do be careful especially with kids or if you have trouble walking. I went down there to watch the sunset one evening and it is a lovely bay. Sandy, and shallow. There was lots of Greek families enjoying it too. Last thing- food. Okay but not amazing. The other guests seemed to enjoy it but 95% of them were not British. The main restaurant had lots of tables, never a problem there, but you have to sit yourself. So because I was on my own I would either have to leave my bag or something on the table (so i didnt loose it) and then q up to get my food. You also have to a to get a drink from the dispenser. So by the time youve got your drink, the plate of food is cold. Sometimes the q for drinks was so long I didnt bother. I ended up walking down the road to the supermarket and buying some bottled water and taking it down to dinner with me. (The all inclusive water was not bottled and came in a plastic cup). The best food I had was the crepes. Oh my they were amazing! One time I asked the chef for 2 and he gave me 4. No complaints- ate the whole lot! They also had fresh pizza, chips and gyros at the snack bar. That was popular at lunchtime. Next to the pool bar there is also ice cream at certain times.
