Perfect few nightsHad a fantastic few nights here with a friend. The staff and locals were extremely welcoming and it felt like a home from home. Bedroom and facilities were ample, plenty of parking space and I have to give a shout out to the chef Joshua for going the extra mile and ensuring I had a yummy vegan breakfast. Would give five stars if a vegan option could be added to the menu Cannot fault it. Best few nights I've had in ages. Thank you. We will be back.

Bed but no BreakfastThe rooms are comfortable. The bathroom clean and shower nice and hot. The restaurant was closed in the evening for some reason but we found a decent pub meal nearby However after pre ordering our breakfast the night before we came down at the allotted time to find the restaurant/pub looked and no signs of life.We knocked the door and rang the bell to no avail. After waiting 15 minutes we left.We were also told that breakfast started at 8 dispite the Hotel website stating it was in fact 7:30.This total lack of service is really unforgivable. Our company hopfully will peruse the management for a partial refund. Disgracful

Lovely friendly welcomeAlthough we live locally and have driven past many times we have visited for the first time. We were warmly welcomed and had a nice chat to the new proprietor. He is full of enthusiasm to build the pub backup and get locals to come in. I'm glad we visited and will certainly go back again.

Rugby but no SkyWhen I visited, the vast majority of the customers were in the uncarpeted "public bar" area of the pub, watching the rugby on TV. I sat in the other part of the pub, which has carpet and framed reproductions of paintings of Henry VIII, the first Lord Howard of Effingham and Sir Douglas Haig himself. I liked the Tudor atmosphere, artfully created in modern style. I was served by a charming guy who quickly left, to be replaced by a barman in a tweed flat cap with a black keeper earring and tattoos. It would appear that stock levels behind the bar are a bit low at the moment. A delivery was expected in the near future. When the rugby finished, a customer inquired whether Sky TV might be put on. The barman replied that he didn't think the pub had Sky any more. The customer was rather put out, as notices outside the pub indicated that it had. I think it was the barman's lack of definitiveness on this subject that was particularly irritating. Newspapers are available for customers to read. Friday's Daily Mail was still lying in the basket, displaying its historic headline. The dartboard in the "public bar" was in busy use. The large blackboard wall behind it is good for recording scores.
