felt cheatedThey offered our group a special rate of $98/night. What did I get? It's more what I DIDN'T get. My room was not made up on Saturday - I came back from a day on Virginia City's tourist spots to an unmade bed, no new towels, no new nothing! When I commented, as I checked out, that I felt ripped - they still charged me the full amount and NO ONE HAS CONTACTED ME to offer anything! I would not stay here again - EVER!

Ghost of former self - never again!!!I used to stay in this hotel back in 2003-2004. This use to be THE hotel in Dongguan. It was one of the tallest building in the area at that time. Service used to be excellent. I stayed there on my recent trip there because the place I usually stay - Pullman Forum Hotel (an excellent hotel by the way) was all full. What a mistake. This giant hotel looks like a ghost town now. The grand reception they used to have is reduced to a small desk by the entrance. The attendants could care less. Dark atrium and a not a soul to be found. People smoking on the lobby - looked like a very cheap joint. I was given a smoking room despite of my reservation clearly indicating for a non smoking one. First they said hotel was full (a blatant lie - because I got to see it for myself after staying for two nights that not many people there). Later they reluctantly changed the room. Breakfast was a disaster. What annoyed me the most was that (both morning) there were un cleared tables with plates of half eaten foods everywhere scattered across the room - you could not find a decent table and bus boy was no where to be seen. Food was so bad it stunk. With literally more than 50 hotels that have since sprouted up offering world class service in ultra modern Dongguan - this hotel does not stand a chance - and I don't think they care either. Add to that a sudden reduction of the tourists to what used to be the sin city of China not sure if it will even stay in business from what I saw.

Never again. Not for the European travellerThis hotel was booked for me by my company and I was looking forward to its 5 star comforts. What a misnomer that is. It got off to a bad start since having traveled for 30 hours, from London to Beijing then a long wait before transferring to a Guangzhou, I was in need of at least a little refreshment and possibly dinner in my hotel? Thats what 5 star would indicate to me. Sadly, the girl behind reception, with the barest minimum of English, informed me there was neither food nor drink available in the hotel that night (9 pm) and over the following days I realised why that might be so: I was one of only a bare handful of guests in this huge hotel. Breakfast next day was vile and certainly nothing available fir Western tastes. Much of the food looked grey and reheated and having not managed dinner Id been looking forward to a decent 5 star, as bilked, breakfast. Shabby, scruffy, grubby bedrooms badly in need of updating. It doesnt create a great impression when you walk into the vast reception area to see the escalators are not working! This is NOT 5 star and is certainly not for the International business traveller

Good location, and good value for moneyThe hotel building is a little old now, but the room was clean and comfortable. Most of the staff speak English, and they were very helpful. On the morning I was there the breakfast was mediocre, but it improved the next two mornings. There are many shopping plazas in the area, and the usual street markets. I am looking forward to returning to this hotel the next time I visit the Nancheng district of Dongguan.

Badly Run but Comfy & Great LocationThis hotel was built in 1995 and is considered old. However, the rooms were comfy & the wifi was decent. Breakfast was average & I had to constantly ask for things to be refilled as many of the heated trays would stay empty until you pointed it out. The consolation prize is the location of this hotel. It is opposite an excellent hospital & the BEST (and cheapest) foot massage joint across the road. It's a 5/10min walk to all major food & clothing chains, including supermarkets: Carrefour, Walmart & Spar. It's truly a great area. Under the right management this hotel could be the berries, but unfortunately it's just below bog-standard.
