  Better than expected!

  As non-smokers, we were hesitant to book at Matsuzake but there was absolutely no stale smoke smell in our room, and the main common area in the lobby was non-smoking. Green tea and hot water supplied, but theres a supermarket nearby for drip coffee drinkers. Male shared bathroom has a relaxing indoor and an outdoor bath, and towels, yukata and all toiletries supplied. Great location and friendly, knowledgeable, English-speaking staff.

  Amazing service in great surroundings!

  We spent two nights at this cozy ryokan and couldnt have been more satisfied! We had a room with shared bathroom, which worked fine (great facilities and no waiting). The breakfast was absolutely breathtaking. However, what thrilled us most was the multi course kaiseki dinner we received free of charge, simply as a treat from the hotel. Plus also for free pick up from the ferry. Would definitely stay here again.

  Great service

  Interesting to stay slightly off the beaten track - tourists here tend to be mainly Japanese. Hotel felt charmingly old-fashioned but the room was lovely, with knockout views over the sea. Service was beyond excellent - the manager/ owner was so helpful with everything from timetables to advice on what to do when, and our meals were served by the lovely Hannah, who spoke good English and was able to tell us things about the island, as well as about Japanese traditions, etc. A very good onsen, use of free bikes, very good food, and even a gift when you leave. Five star service on an interesting island.

  Excellent stay in Tonosho

  The hotel staff helped us plan our visit to Shodoshima by email even before we arrived. The suggestions were very good and helped us to make use of the short time we had. We stayed only 1 night, but in retrospect, we probably could have done better with 2. There is a seemingly new superstore within 200 meters of the hotel, so whatever you might need is available there. Our traditional tatami room had a nice view of the water, and was very functional, quiet and clean (of course). We enjoyed the soothing onsen after along day of traveling and sightseeing. As others have mentioned, the service was beyond excellent. The hotel provided a shuttle to the port before the scheduled time so we could catch an early ferry. We highly recommend the Shodoshima Seaside Hotel Matsukaze. Many thanks to the management and staff for everything.

  Service is impeccable

  I was staying in this hotel for 1 night and dinner and breakfast is included. Dinner was served in the private room with lots of food. Breakfast again was served in the private room. Although the staff in the hotel did not speak much English. They were trying their best to provide the best service they could. The hotel is right opposite to the beach and although coming In winter, the view was still amazing. Also it was only 3 mins walk from a big store/supermarket. Also very close to the port and Angels walkway. I think it had a very good value for money.
