Good apartment, but.We picked up the keys from a building located on the main road into Nelson Bay which was convenient. Upon ariving we realised that it was just an apartment block, certainly not a normal beach club and the pool was also very very verve small. The apartment itself was very clean and spacious, the downside was the so called amenities pack which was minuscule and had no soap. The biggest problem was our neighbours who were very noisy and loud and partied till 1am, the rules clearly stated that no parties or excessive noise so we complained to the management company who said they would phone the occupants but told us if it happened again we should phone the police. Next night they were dancing and shouting on the balcony till we said we would call the police. This should not be our responsibility the management company should be upholding the clearly printed rules.

Airbnb next time...Just two nights for a swim meet up the road. Almost everyone has mentioned the annoying 'before 5pm or $20' issue for key collection. I understand why but honestly, 5pm? And $20? Thankfully, our keys were picked up and returned by our friends because there was no way we were able to make it to Nelson Bay before 5pm on Friday afternoon after work in Sydney (would have come up on Saturday but swim meet started too early on Saturday). Our first impression was the drive way. Incredible there weren't more scuffs on the pillars separating the drive in and drive out. The drive is very narrow and low (no marking regarding height) - I'm thinking the property used to be configured differently because I really don't think these were always intended as a drive way. On the plus side, the old back yard has been turned into a "biggish" car park. The rooms aren't too bad, but it seems like they have been cheaply renovated because there's a lot that is falling apart. Our front door would not close, the fire alarm constantly went off for the whole block when someone was cooking (not us), our DVD player did not work, the toilet in our room and the room next to us ran constantly, our fold out couch was left partially folded out when we arrived as though someone didn't know how to put it away (whoever this was also bent one of the arms in the mechanism - I managed to fix this so I could fold it out and put it away at the end of the visit). The apartment was incredibly hot as well - although the air con (no instructions) was pretty powerful. Sleeping under that on the pull out was, well, really cold but if I turned the air con off, it was steaming within 20 minutes. The linen was clean which was good and the kitchen was passable. I think it's fair to say that with a closer attention to detail, the place would be far better. Having said that, it seems reasonably popular (every unit was taken and we weren't there on a special weekend or anything). That's likely partially because the location is quite good being close to the beach and bay. I must mention the pool too. The pool is a fiberglass in-ground, very shallow and the management have put up a sign to say not to jump or dive. We noticed some local kids jumped the fence to swim and they were causing issues with kids who were staying at the units. Naturally they were jumping and diving but of course there was no one to stop them. Overall, I think the venue has some potential but management has a lot to improve before I will ever consider staying there again - it will be Airbnb next time....

Dirty, smelly apartmentBooked thru Hotels.com and was not informed that keys have to be picked up elsewhere until we arrived at the property and found a note requesting guests to pick up/drop off keys at 47 Shoal Bay road. Upon arriving at the Winning Holidays office at Shoal Bay town centre, we then found out that we have to call after hours security who then charged us a $20 (cash only) call out fee. The room is physically clean however it had a very damp smell which we later found out was due to the washing machine in the closet that has dirty water still undrained. and can't be drained because it's broken. There were also no other amenities e.g. shampoo, body wash besides the bath towels. The room light in the 2nd bedroom has also fused, luckily we have a table lamp still working. We were also unable to open the glass doors to air the room as there were no fly screens preventing bugs from flying in. The hot water pipes were rattling so hard from pressure we were afraid it might burst while having a shower. Funnily enough, this apartment is also on the market for 420k, highly overpriced for what is a very basic groundfloor 2BR shared small toilet, uncovered carport right next to the main road, which the owner may potentially have to spend another fortune fixing.

Terrible Customer Service. Dirty Apartment. When i checked in. I was asked for my credit card so they could take a pre-authorisation of $100 which is standard. But then i was asked to also write out all my credit card details on a form including the 3 digit number on the back of the card. I asked why i had to do this when they already had swiped my credit card and taken a $100 pre-authorisation. The lady was very rude and said if i do any damage over $100 they need my card details to claim. I said that's not right you now have my details from the swipe you did. She said that's the rules. I said i am worried about the security of my credit card details. She said we shred it after you check out. I then got to my unit and it was very hot. I went to turn on the AC only to discover the remote had no batteries in it. I rang the office and got the same lady who said you will have to come down and get some batteries of us. (it was a 10min drive away with scarce parking). I said why wasn't the room checked for this to which she said with a very rude tone. "Sir, if the last guest didn't tell us there were no batteries in the remote how are we supposed to know?" I said that maybe your cleaners should have a check list. She replied "Do you want batteries or not!" I was quite angry with her attitude so i told her i would fix it myself and hung up. Also the AC filters were filthy and i had to clean them to get it to work properly. I will never stay here again!!!!!!
