If you want to feel Ako's charm...

Ako was always my love and dream every since I've got to know about Chushingura. And Shokichi reflects the charm itself with beautiful scenary and tidy facility! Once you request pick-up service, the car awaits you in front of Banshu Ako station - just remeber its logo then you can find the ban and driver easily! We stayed 10cho tatami room with massage chair and huge window. Very traditional and calm. A beautiful and young staff gave us tour including swimming pool and rotenburo. I think swimming pool is one of the advantage for a family with kids who don't like sauna. So you can let them play in the pool while you soak in the hot spring. The best part I had in Shokichi was rotenburo. It uses sea water so you can feel salty taste as well. When you sit in the outdoor bath, you can actually see the ocean outside and I would like to recommend you to take bath at night. You can feel the night breeze blown from the ocean and find lighthouse in the middle of the sea. This is something you can only feel in Ako. Also the dinner and breakfast that our plan covers (they call 'plan' that includes room reservation and meal) were mind-blowing. from freshly prepared sashimi, Yudohu(soft Tofu), anago shabushabu, fluffy rice to shiomi mochi(salt-taste rice cake) and icecream - thoes were the healthies options you can choose in the world! I'd like to express my appreciation on their hospitality and great accomodation again. But I am sorry that only online booking is available in Japanese, no English.

    Beautiful and very relaxing

We stayed here for two nights in a Japanese style room, which we loved. We dont speak Japanese and only a handful of people spoke a bit of English at this Ryokan, but everyone was so helpful and friendly. We had such a great time here. We ate breakfast and dinner here and the food was super fresh and delicious. Sometimes we didnt know what exactly we were eating and we were fine with that as everything was great. This ryokan is on the water, so you get wonderful and relaxing views from everywhere you are. The Onsen was beautiful and very relaxing. We sincerely loved this ryokan and hope we can return.

    Lovely onsen resort

This was a little challenging to get to without knowing Japanese but worth the effort. You have to call them to reserve a spot on the free transport from Banshu-Ako station to the hotel, and at the station there's no clear indication of where the pickup will be or what the bus looks like. I identified it by the Kanji characters pasted on its side and it was waiting in the parking lot. The resort's situated on a rise by the sea and my traditional Japanese room had a little balcony and a sea view, with a massage chair facing outwards. The two onsens were excellent, with indoor and outdoor tubs for both. They aren't big but the resort isn't either so they wouldn't be full. Dinner and breakfast were included and they both comprised of multi-course Japanese dishes and terrific.

    Everything is good but ....

Everything is good .. The hotel shuttle bus from Banshuako The reception and service were excellent Rotenburo with nice view of the sea, esp at sunrise. Comfortable room with view of the sea Delicious and sumptuous seafood dinner but I could not sight the certificate for the Onsen water which had a faint smell of chlorine.

Sakoshi-brand oysters special with hot springs viewing Setouchi-sunset!

It is a relatively small Japanese-style hotel with cute details and very welcoming atmosphere. Not only their services but also all the details in the lobby area, such as carefully selected unique & comfy chairs to relax and mini sake tasting bar for free show how much they care for their clients. I took one of my boys and my dad to enjoy their Sakoshi-brand oyster course. If you like oysters, you will enjoy them in many forms such as sukiyaki-style or steamed-in-white-wine. The sunset over Setouchi ocean from their outside hot spring is around 5:40pm this time of the year and it was memorable. They have 2 big hot spring bath rooms on B1 Floor and B3 Floor. The one on B3 is much nicer with different kinds of baths such as Hinoki-wooden or copper. It is a 2-hour drive from Osaka and not as pricey as Arima, nor as far as Kinosaki. I highly recommend this Ako hotel.
