Perfect accommodation choice! After searching endlessly, I ended up booking here for our stay in Nozawa onsen. We booked through the very helpful and patient Mariko at Nozawa Holidays. It was a little more expensive than other options but once we arrived I could see that it was worth the money. The position is perfect. Very close to the moving walkway and right in the midst of the beautiful village. The rooms were incredibly spacious - traditional style but with private bathroom if you prefer. The onsens are exceptional - be sure to visit both floors (at the appropriate times!). The larger one on the 1st floor is quite special. The breakfasts are traditional with some western touches on alternate days. I thoroughly enjoyed each breakfast including the soups, fish course (cubed raw salmon with wasabi and soy - great start to the day!). The staff - I cant express how immaculate the service is here. So unobtrusive and quiet but we felt so looked after. ie. put an extra mattress on my husbands futon the first night and the staff remembered to do that when making up his bed every subsequent night. Id thoroughly recommend this Ryokan. Nozawa Onsen is one of the only places Ive skied at that Id return to in the summer. The village is fantastic. Quite a special place. If youre still reading - can I advise you to get a quote from Nozawa Holidays. We had a small mix up at check in that could have really been an issue however the Nozawa Holidays team performed miracles to fix it. Id go through them again in a heartbeat.

Traditonal experienceThis was our first experience of staying in a Ryokan. We were greeted warmly by the staff. Check in was efficient and quick, we were taken to our very large room (over looking the main street, with views across the town), the facilties in the room were expalined. Slippers for the tatami mats, tea making, fridge, onsen details. The TV had no english channels, it was hit and miss if you came across a program in english. Wifi was very weak, but we werent there to sit in our rooms and look at a screen. There are many options for food very close by. It is a 3 minute walk to the moving walk way to get up the mountain. Staff were helpful and polite, we enjoyed the Japanese style breakfast. Overall it was a wonderful experience. We would stay there again.

Snow Trip 2019Just spent 12 days at Nozawa Onsen staying at Tokiwaya. This place is traditional Japanese accommodation located centrally in Nozawa, which is great. The place is ammuculate the facilities are excellent, from the natural onsen the ski room where you can leave all your gear from day to day to the rooms which are traditional Japanese style futon on the floor, the staff are friendly & most helpful. The breakfast of a morning is a must again traditional style. Its only a short 5-10 minute walk to the travelator up to the ski fields. Facilities around Tokiwaya are easy to find, bars, food, especially the 2 restaurants underneath Tokiwaya, they are a must, shops etc all in all great place to stay.

Beautiful PlaceWe spent a week at Tokiwaya during our skiing trip in Nozawaonsen. The place is authentically Japanese in form and feeling. Rooms are furnished with tatami flooring and futons. The food is exquisite and varied and the service staff are humorous and polite. Above all, the Tokiwaya has two superb in house onsen baths. Very hot water because the guesthouse is at the top of the village closer to the volcanic source than other accommodation. Blissful after a day on the slopes.

One of the Very BestWe have just spent a glorious week in this wonderful hotel. We have travelled the world and stayed in many great hotels but we would rate this as one of the very best. As a Ryokan, it is a traditional Japanese hotel. It is so welcoming and full of character that staying there is a real pleasure. Our day started with a breakfast served by the attentive dining room staff, we had our separate cubicle. However, the highlight was the daily visit to bath in the hotel's own onsen (Japanese Spa Bath). We can truly say that we were treated like royalty, as were all of the guests. Nozawa Onsen is a delightful ski resort and Tokiwaye Ryokan is the gem in its heart.
