  Nice hotel that could be better

  We stayed in Shihzuwan Hotel, Kaohsiung for two days basically because of its great location and also its good rating during our recent tour of the western coastal areas of Taiwan. The hotel is located within walking distance of both KRT and train stations making visits to places of interest easy and convenient. There are also ample eateries around the hotel offering reasonable meals at affordable prices. The room is great and cozy, nicely equipped with safe, good WiFi, toiletries, bedroom slipper, although i missed having a Jacuzzi in our standard room. I also missed the dispensers of shampoo and bath liquid and the non-slip bathroom slippers offered in other hotels. Breakfast is of passable standards and could be better. The front entrance of the hotel is not too appealing but the back entrance is great with the computer stations and free coffee/tea. However, i am not impressed by the robotic answer given to me by the front-line young staff that the hotel computer system will automatically charged me for extra time if we are late when requesting for slightly later checkout, we have no such problem elsewhere. On the other hand an older male staff was very helpful on the first day when i requested for direction to visit some sights. Another irritation, is the reminder call by staff to checkout well before the listed time. Some good retraining can nicely solved these problems but i noticed that the hotel business is very competitive in Kaohsiung with many great hotels offering free buffer dinner/supper, snacks and ice- cream placing Shihzuwan in a difficult position.

  CP When you travel to Kaohsiung, its really a good choice to book a room with Jacuzzi. This makes you have a good day.

  Good location, good quality of breakfast

  Last minute to book the hotel as I travelled back to Kaohsiung but my room is under construction. I didnt expect much as I just consider it easy to reach from the airport, simply take MRT to Kaohsiung Main Station, five mins walk!!!!!! I didnt spend much time and wasnt sure if there are some facilities. I went straightforward to the room, took quick shower, and fell asleep. The bed was soft and comfortable without smoking smell at all. What surprised me the most was the breakfast the hotel offered. Though it is combination of western and oriental style, the food quality was good with this room fare. I would definitely pay a visit if I ever need a room in Kaohsiung again.

  Good Location!

  Booked this hotel only for 1 night because the location is near to the main train station. Breakfast provided but since we left very early in the morning, hotel staffs are nice and kind enough to offered us packed breakfast. The best memory this hotel gave me was they surprised me with a breakfast fruit basket which really warm my heart! Will definitely recommend this hotel to other travellers.

  Quiet, rich variety of local food

  Stayed 5 nights for vacation. Staff were nice and the room was neat. The bed was quite soft. The hotel is nicely located for people who are going to take trains, perfect for me since I've planned a day-trip to Taitung by train. Despite it's a bit out of the city's most gorgeous area like the high speed rail station area and the harbour area, the vicinity of the hotel is peaceful in the evening and you can spot a number of folks waiting in the terminal for overnight coach to other parts of Taiwan. There is also a night market nearby, you could get there on foot in 10 minutes or by subway for one station. Had breakfast for 2 out of 5 mornings. The hotel is serving the same set of selections for breakfast buffet, and the food are very local with more than 20 dishes in Taiwanese (should be a good exposure for foreigners) and western style. For me the only downside is that the drinks section does not serve coffee. Very glad that the I could watch several world cup matches within my room. Though the TV did not have HD quality, it's enough for me to enjoy great matches.
