Convenient ski-in ski-out hotelStayed at the west building of Shiga Kogen Price Hotel. Skiing/boarding: Accessibility was great with a high speed chairlift outside the hotel. Shiga Kogen as a ski area is pretty good and very large - kept us entertained for the 3 nights we were there! Rooms/hotel amenities: We'd booked a family room for the 3 of us (all adults) and it did get quite squeezy with not much space for large luggages. Furnishings were a little dated but overall the room was still fine and clean. The hallways of the hotel are pretty long and we were placed right down the end of one. It always felt like an extra long walk to the lift! Onsen was pretty good - it was open-air and the bath looked out into a pond. Blissful when it started snowing! There is also a washing machine and dryer available in the onsen. We had breakfast at the hotel as well as lunch. There's a decent variety of choices. No issues there!

SnowTasticA wonderful stay in Shiga Kogen at The East wing. 5th floor is the comfort floor, wonderful views of the mountain, so therapeutic to sit in the room chairs with a cup of tea watching the snow fall & skiers pass by. Everything about this Hotel (East) exudes luxury, comfort & service with a smile. Apart from 1 horribly embarrassing bogan woman from Australia mouthing off wherever she went, our stay was just sublime. It was suggested to be quite a poor snow season, however after having travelled to many Northern Hemisphere ski resorts, I found there was ample snow, with regular dumps of over 30cm every couple of evenings. Japow was easy to find no. After what side of the resorts we skied. I have booked again already to return in February 2021 & cannot wait.

Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel - South Wing (1-2 star western hotel in 6 star ski location)Shiga Kogen Prince Hotel - South Wing. (1-2 star western hotel priced at 5 star Ryokan prices, in a great 6 star ski location albeit an extremely non-integrated and isolated resort with limited facilities). Booked 2x Non-smoking rooms but which absolutely wreaked from chain smokers. Front desk middle-manager condescending, arrogant, sneaky, sly, unapologetic (and ironically happily and openly racist and hostile to foreigners, in a hotel occupied at peak by 80% foreigner clientele ....). No Onsen or sento (baths) let alone an indoor public pool or spa. No common lounge. No games room. No gym. No pub/bar. Front desk could be replaced by an iPad for all the customer service relationship (CRM) and troubleshooting skills they provided. Lack of Japanese customers at the hotel has obviously led to an arrogance at front desk (that is not even the equivalent in CRM standard to a budget fast food chain or family restaurant where client satisfaction, sales and repeat sales are a key business driver ....). Cleaning of rooms pre-checkin non-existent. Mould in bathroom and on floor, walls and ceiling, as well as a WC cistern leaking onto the bathroom floor. Booked 2x Non-smoking rooms, but got given (despite our protests) so called Shochu rooms instead where they said they spray a bit of air freshener briefly in rooms before checkin to make smell go away and deodorise room.... Problem was rooms had obviously been occupied by chain smokers before and smell permeated carpet, curtains, beds linen, towels and pillows, even the toilet bowl (as thats where cigarettes where being flushed) to such an extent it made the kids physically sick on entry into the toons. All this after - delayed entry by 4 hrs (even though they said rooms had been fully cleaned and were ready ... which they had not been and were not), and - hotels own pamphlets in room itself said that if you smoke in room you will be charged 50,000 ex over to clean room (which not even thought of being done by hotel cleaners and managers) - Likely cleaner had also been smoking cigarettes in bathroom as well, as smell so strong and recent and heavy throughout everything in the entire room there is no way it had been thoroughly cleaned and deodorised 4-6 hrs prior. Hotel staff and managers refused to do anything. Only solution provide by front desk middle manager (male, 20s-30s), with a smirk on his face, was to offer us 1 of the worst rooms to be swapped .... at no extra charge....., and half size, and a view of the car park not the slopes..... We (ourselves) had to: - clean the bathroom and basins thoroughly ourselves with soap and water multiple times to get rid of smell. - open all windows and doors ourselves, and leave rooms fully open (with our luggage secured elsewhere) to get smell out over course of the afternoon and well into the evening. Took close to 8 hrs from actually getting the keys for smell to disaster to something close to normal but still present. Never sighted one cleaner come close to our rooms before, during our stay, or on leaving. Fact that boxes of empty ramen lined corridors for days from other occupants on other floors, on car park side of building, sets the scene as the the hotels cleaning standards. Had to request toilet paper from front desk. West wing of same hotel widely known to be the worst food in the world amongst international skiing community... South wing better, food wise, although paying more than you would for 5 star ryokan prices, for breakfast and dinner, but just getting a nice western buffet / feeding frenzy. Dining room staff nice and friendly. Dining room view great at evening. Ski lift crew and ski hire staff nice, personable and polite. Young lady at checkin was polite, accommodating and understanding but could not do anything other than give us keys, and answer general questions. Skiing great, but can do better and cheaper elsewhere. Front desk, hotel facilities and cleaning a massive disappointment!!! Suggest you just get a day pass and take the shuttle bus and stay somewhere you can better relax in clean comfort, and spend the saved money on more skiing days.
