Ridiculously bad service!! Not a place I would recommend

Ridiculously bad service!! Not a place I would recommend, especially for treating clients and business purpose. This is not a budget hotel but freaking Sheraton! I cannot believe what I experienced. At fiery, staff are quite friendly. However, interesting story comes... we went into our assigned room, cleaning lady was there and asked us to wait. She called the front desk to arrange another room for us, so we asked if we should go to front desk to collect our keys. She said no. After a few minutes, she said we need to go down to collect the keys, so we went, and queue (I thought its normal for us to be served when next counter staff is ready, obviously no one was aware and available.) We then waited for a while, then one of her staff seemed to be looking for someone with a set of keys in her hand, so I showed interest and asked. Then I got my new keys. This was not the most exciting incident, next episode was. We then checked in to the new room, got changed and be ready to hit the pool. All of a sudden, our door was opened! Someone has a card and able to open our hotel room door!!!! Luckily, we were done changing!! This is absolutely unacceptable!! Poor guests felt so sorry about the incident, and we dont blame them. One more ridiculous thing happened after dinner. So we went with another pair of friends, he needed a shave (which should be available in the room but not). So we went to front desk to ask, front desk staff saw the room key, asked the room number and asked him to provide extra personal information. He was only asked for a freaking shave!! And the front desk staff ultimately sending someone to bring it up to the room, whats the point of asking personal information?! Then we asked for wifi access, we were telling her there was a problem. After a few information exchanged, the staff raised her voice!! A Sheraton hotel staff raised her voice! In a five star hotel! In the end, it was their unprofessional service and sloppy work and mixed up room information and assignment that contributed to the WiFi issue. This cannot be the standard of a five star hotel like Sheraton. This is absolutely unacceptable. If this is the true Sheraton, the hotel has went downhill tremendously!

Perfect relaxing getaway off the beaten track

Some years ago I visited Macau and had my first look at Mainland China from the bridge connecting Taipa with Macau Peninsular. The gleaming Sheraton lit up at night and I wondered what was this place. Now, I took the chance to visit for myself from Shenzhen during the National Day holiday. For a short break from Shenzhen with nothing to do, this hotel turned out to be perfect but it does depend what you are looking for. There is really nothing around the hotel. The convention centre next door has a small number of food outlets including Starbucks, Burger King, and various local places where I got a stomach noodle soup for lunch. Walking along the seafront was a strange experience. It seems 5-10 years old and well maintained but absolutely deserted. Across the river is a gleaming International Finance Centre and the whole area is still very much under construction but feels like a ghost town even though some of the developments including this hotel have been here a few years. Clearly, theyre playing a very long game here because despite the volume of buildings and construction this area has none of the life of any district in Shenzhen. After taking the ferry from Shenzhens Shekou Port early in the morning and walking around Zhuhai to see the beaches and sights I got a Didi from Zhuhais famous mermaid which took a good half hour and was further than I was expecting. Once here, though, I was able to check in at mid-day in the lounge and was upgraded as a Titanium elite to a Junior Suite with a marvellous view of Macau and the bridge I had travelled all those years ago. Staff in the lounge were excellent and very helpful. As well as the view, the Junior Suite had a balcony, Nespresso machine, and living area separated by two TVs. It was in excellent condition and only a few scuffs on some of the wood. Also, curiously, there was not a single USB port which was either an incredible oversight or an indication that the hotel is older than it looks. In the afternoon, I went to the pool and was able to sunbathe for a few hours which is what I wanted. There were many families with children here so despite being part of a convention centre complex, this hotel has clearly been discovered as a suitable staycation resort in the Greater Bay Area. I was warned that the lounge would be crowded in the evening with lots of children but it wasnt as bad as the Marriott Ocean Park in Hong Kong on a Saturday night. Six spirits, two wines, and beer along with a food buffet that many clearly considered to be their main meal of the day. I would say it was slightly less extensive than the Sheraton Futian in Shenzhen but I spent both evenings quite happy in a corner on my own there. Breakfast in Feast restaurant is great. Lots of choice in the buffet and a ticket system ensured it wasnt crowded. I have to give a particular mention to the sautéed mushrooms. This is a vegetable that is often presented swimming in its own flavourless water at breakfast buffets but here they get it right by mixing them with herbs that actually bring out the flavour and boiling off the water so they cook properly. I didnt visit the action of Zhuhai near the border with Macau and if thats your focus then youre probably better off staying somewhere near that area. But for a short break away with a pool and lounge this Sheraton was perfect.
