Recently Renovated, No Food Service, Shockingly Bad Check-inI stayed at the Sheraton Detroit Metro Airport on Friday evening, February 12, 2021, in Room 106. Delta Airlines reserved the room for me because a mechanical problem resulted in a missed connection. I am a Delta Platinum frequent traveler and currently hold Titanium Elite and Lifetime Platinum status with Marriott, including Sheraton hotels. I arrived via the hotel shuttle around 10:00 PM. There was a blond female on duty at one of the check-in pods. Our initial interaction was cordial. I handed her my Delta voucher, and as she began processing the reservation, I asked if she would add my Marriott Bonvoy frequent traveler number. She replied that Delta does not allow that. I've never had a hotel refuse to enter my number for an airline-booked stay, though some have told me that points/benefits would probably not apply. I asked her if there was a place to enter my number on her screen. She said there was, but she refused to do it. I had already had a bad Delta experience, so I wasn't in the mood for more of the same. I admit to feeling agitated, but I did not use foul language or abusive speech. I said something like, "Well, I've had rotten service from Delta today, and now I'm getting rotten service from Sheraton." That comment lit her fuse, and she immediately became intensely and shockingly combative. I asked her name. She said, "I'm not giving you my name." I said I just want your first name. She again refused. I asked to speak with the manager-on-duty. She said, "I am the manager-on-duty." She boasted that she could refuse to honor my reservation and send me away, and I did give serious thought to leaving. At one point, she stated that she would not proceed with the reservation if I did not apologize to her. She reached for her handheld communication device and threatened to call the shuttle driver and send me back to the airport. I just stared at her. I couldn't believe a Sheraton hotel manager was speaking like this to a customer. I was nearly speechless. I don't recall everything that was said after that. At one point, she even stopped working on my reservation to help another guest, and it was clear she was doing so to punish me and assert her power. Shortly after completing that transaction, she said something like, "Do you want me to check you in or not?" I was angry, but I determined to end the awful situation as quickly as possible by minimizing any additional conversation. So, I replied with just three words: "Check me in." She said, "I accept your apology," even though I did not offer one. She handed me the key, told me to have a good night, and I never saw her again. This ranked among the worst check-in experiences in my nearly 40 years of regular travel. Had it not been late in the day and so cold outside, I would have gone back to the airport and started over, even if it meant losing the Delta hotel voucher. The hotel looked recently renovated, but with bland and boring decor. At first, I thought it must be a value-brand Four Points by Sheraton, not a standard Sheraton property. The room was clean and fresh, and the bed was comfortable. The HVAC fan was loud, and I suspect some would find it unacceptably so. There was no food service other than junk food for purchase in a lobby corner--not even a grab-and-go breakfast. They did have coffee available in two thermal jugs, but there were no regular or decaf labels. So, it was a crapshoot to know what you were drinking. Had it not been for the astonishingly bad check-in experience, I'd say the hotel is probably a solid 3-star property. I hope not to have to stay near the Detroit airport anytime soon, but if I must, I'll avoid the Sheraton Detroit Metro Airport.

Great Stay!I stayed here for 2 days recently just for a weekend getaway with my guy. The staff at the front desk is absolutely awesome and very accommodating. Only a few issues. We stayed on the 3rd floor. Upon walking down the hall to our room there was a trail of cat litter and cat food in the hall. We thought that was so strange lol. It stayed there the entire stay so goes to show how often the staff vacuums. Our tv did not work the 1st day. I called the front desk and she had to have security come up to fix it. I chuckled at that but he did fix it lol. They didn't start serving breakfast until our last morning. Super expensive! $13 for a small omelet and $5 for sides. I thought that was just ridiculous. It's also freezing in the dining area. We decided not to order and went out to breakfast instead. I'll definitely stay here again and it will more than likely be sooner than later because I love weekend getaways.

Decent property, awful serviceEverything started off on the wrong foot for our stay, took almost 45 minutes to check in because only one employee was working the front desk. Then two of the three elevators are out of service, waiting another 15 minutes to get to our room. After over an hour we got to our room, which appears to have had a recent facelift.....but it's still tired. At check-in we were enthusiastically upgraded to club level due to our status! However when we visited the club lounge; it literally had 3 carry out bowls of pretzels, empty fridge, and a broken coffee machine. I know during the pandemic the hospitality business is stressed, but we expected more. A side note for security....the back door which appears to be secured is instead propped open by a rug.
