Full of characterClean and charming hotel in heart of Columbia! Friendly staff (Conner). Helped us with parking and places to eat. Visiting zoo and museum while we are here. Thanks for a great first visit to your state!

Amazing potential but falls shortThis hotel is clearly the grande dame of downtown Columbia. The building itself is absolutely architecturally gorgeous and very inviting. The lobby is gorgeous and the keeping of the vault is really special. Overall the grounds are well kept and has a very classy feel to it. The fact that the hotel did not offer valet because of Covid and the fact that there is no affiliated garage made parking here an absolute nightmare. First I was parked in the wrong garage and then when I went to the one I was told to go to they wanted $35 a night. A ridiculous price for Columbia South Carolina. If youre reading this, make sure that you park in the garage that is by the Holiday Inn and Marriott. We had a double queen room. The room itself was pretty but it lacked any sort of decorations and looked rather plain. They couldve hung some period photos. The cabinets were odd and I assume that they once included a mini fridge. The rooms feel more three-star than anything. But they have the potential of being four-star. The toiletries are absolutely great and I know Sheraton is trying to bring their image into the current decade as it is stuck in the 1980s. The shower was a terrible experience it only produced hot boiling water. It made showering quite a chore if you wanted to keep your skin. Starbucks in the basement of the hotel is such a beautiful room with the most bizarre hours I have ever encountered. In fact, most of the downtown has Bizzarre hours. Not really conducive to tourism. I would stay here again because I fell so much in love with the architecture and I also feel that the inclusion of the roof bar should be more advertised as it is a very nice place to sit and end the evening. As most people will tell you, Marriott sure has cut out any of their extras because of Covid. Its almost as if they dont want to keep their customers. Having the front desk person run around like a crazy person bringing people towels is ridiculous and it seems to be more apt to spread Covid than the maid simply doing her job.

Nice historic hotel in a great locationBeautiful older building. Nice rooms with beautiful simple decor and bathrooms in an Art Deco style. Rooftop lounge with decent drinks and so-so food. The Vault restaurant is closed due to COVID. No breakfast onsite, but there are options nearby. Free street parking on weekends or pay $14 to self-park in the deck (non-secured). Starbucks is in the basement but the personnel appear to be put out if you order anything.

Hotel in old bank; 14 bucks to park a block awayHistoric hotel in an old bank with large vault off the lobby. If you like that kind of thing, you've found a cool place and can stop reading. Went here off a recommendation and thought they did their research. Clearly, they didn't. One of the first impressions was a crunch for space to even unload your luggage- there's only a few spaces near the hotel entrance for temporary parking. The main parking is in a parking garage a block away for $14. At least there's security there. Walking a block away to the hotel in this area would be a little intimidating at night to the average person. Fortunately, I was prepared and had no worries about security. The elevators are tight and sketchy at best- no way to social distance on them. Rooms are awkwardly arranged and were clearly offices and other weird spaces years ago. The first room we were in had bad ventilation noise, so we moved. Rooms were a little too cozy for my tastes. There's no walking around softly since the original wooden floors will surely creak like a haunted house. The hotel room's bathroom was long and narrow with a TV on the wall across from the shower. An interesting feature but the novelty wears off soon when you realize how cramped the space is. We were on a higher floor but could still hear the sirens and street noise from down below. The bed was comfortable though.

Long Weekend during CovidPerfect location downtown, walking distance from the capitol, and great restaurants like Bourbon and Halls Chophouse. If you are there for a weekend, the Soda City Market is right outside this hotel on Saturday morning. Due to Covid there was no Valet parking, but they sent us about a block away to a parking garage for $14. Not a big deal however they failed to mention that the walking entrance to the parking garage is closed on Sundays so we had to walk up the driveway. Luckily we were on the first floor but we parked closer to the elevator than the main entrance. With so many great restaurants nearby this hotel desperately needs refrigerators in the rooms. Ironically there was a small refrigerator sitting in the hallway outside our room but when I asked at the front desk for a refrigerator I was told they did not have any to offer. They also need a trashcan in the bathroom. There is one small trashcan in the room and because of Covid they did not clean our room since we were only there 4 nights.
