Check in process needs a lot of improvementsI arrived hotel about 8:00 PM. I couldn't be checked-in until 9:00 PM. I was hungry and exhausted. It's Chinese New Year holiday, the guests from the same flight arrived together. The lobby was crowded with this whole group of guests, but the hotel only had two persons at the front desk for checking in. The front desk manager came back to help after an emergency case was done as her explanation to me afterwards. The reason why they took so long for each customer was because they requested skiing equipment deposits while checking in. Everyone had a lot of questions regarding rental and ticketing process. Shouldn't it be separated from checking-in? Each group of guests took 15~20 minutes. This process really needs to be changed and improved. I moved to Westin next day, the front desk manager helped me got early checked-in from last night. Because my family was still at skiing field, Sheraton couldn't process my payment until all rental equipment was returned. This proves again that they charged deposit with room together was wrong. Check- in and out should be separated from skiing package. I came back at night to pay my room. They got my bills completed wrong. Additional two thousand RMB was showing on my room rate. The manager of night shift couldn't make a decision to return my money even though I have shown the SPG reservation email to prove my room rates. He said he needed to check future and will send my correct bill to Westin. If I didn't stay future and need to catch my flight, wouldn't they delay my departure? I don't recommend this hotel if they don't make any improvement at all. However, the Chinese restaurant in this hotel comes with delicious local food. Highly recommend giving a try.

Beautiful property and relaxing getawayI must admit I was incredibly nervous about our stay since so many of the English reviews mentioned how difficult it was to get around without Chinese in this part of China. Upon arrival at the hotel, the English of the staff was indeed very limited but there is hope for you to get by... literally in the form of the Guest Service Manager Hope Fan. After asking multiple staff if they spoke English at the Sheraton, finally someone pointed me towards the Westin next door and that's where I found Hope. He translated all the hotel and resort services for us and made it a point throughout our 4 days to find us and check in on us. He single handedly saved our vacation from what could have been a very difficult excursion to one that was incredibly memorable. The hotel itself was beautifully situated and a bit offset from the main shopping area (which we liked). Pro tip: There's a back path from the lobby lounge that connects to a road that will get you to the shops with like a 5 min walk as opposed to walking out the front and all the way around the property. We did have some issues with our air conditioning and the staff sent an engineer twice to try to fix it and eventually offered to change our room but we opted for the fan instead since it was our last evening. A couple of things you want to be aware of that we wished we had known is that the Club Lounge was closed since it was off-peak but breakfast was included with our stay at the restaurant. Apparently they also have a happy hour in the lobby lounge as well but we never made it there since we were told alcohol was not included. Additionally, the spa was not operating during our stay but there are plenty of other spas in the area in the other hotels. Overall we had a great time and if you arrive with an open mind you might be surprised at how charming Changbaishan Resort can be!

Good Stay, Would go AgainFamily of 4, two kids under 12. We went during New Year 2019 to Ski. We are intermediate skiers and overall we had a great time. Short flight from Shanghai. Small, efficient airport. Quick exit. A little confusion to find the buses and taxis due to lack of signs - had to walk straight out to the parking lot. Note that taxis have very limited trunk space bc of the fuel tank. Felt like quick ride from airport to resort - maybe 30min. For the whole resort we found staff - whether in our hotel, the public ski rental place or local restaurants - to be both friendly and helpful (we've lived in Shanghai for 9 years,so I guess that is our base of comparison). Except for the hotel manager, English was limited, so we made due with our non-native Chinese. More on skiing. Ski patrol was numerous and helpful. Crowds were reasonable. More advanced slopes almost deserted. Lots of novices and still quite a few locals that don't realize the need for basic instruction which can be a little dangerous, but overall didn't get in our way. Snow is man-made. Can be a bit icy in patches. Ski pass. You need to download an APP and use a kiosk to handle registration, payment and activation. Was hard for us to download the App. Our phones are mostly connected to Int'l App stores which didn't have the app. Eventually succeeded with a local android phone. Staff were pretty helpful here. Ski rental shop. Sheraton didn't have one or it wasn't open. Westin's shop next door was available. We didn't use the hotel shop. Hotel shop is probably less chaotic, but if you have to carry your equipment back for return, then its relatively far away and uphill, so it would be a pain to return the equipment. There seemed some arrangement with snowmobile to help with this, but it was unclear and infrequent. We used the public shop - chaotic but we made it. Sheraton. Only thing to say about the hotel was that it wasn't fully "awake". Room was fine, breakfast food was good enough, the club-floor club was closed, lobby bar basically dead, so all good if you want quiet; however its a bit of a walk to get to the ski lifts and restaurant street. We ate dinner out every night as the hotel just didn't seem inviting for dinner. 10RMB cabs around the resort and some kind of shuttle as well if you don't want to walk in the cold (like -30C). If I go again, I will try the Holiday Inn as it just seemed to be the top location for convenience of skiing and restaurants. Hyatt may also be more convenient. We also tried the indoor water park one afternoon. It was included in the ski pass. Kids enjoyed it. Hope this helps anyone planning to go.

Terrible Payment SystemI stayed here in December, booking a package under Spring Tours China. They had mistakenly classified my e-payment room deposit as an expense, and told me it would take 2 days to rectify the situation. Simply put, even now 37 days later, I have yet to receive anything nor an update from them. Other than that, the stay was fine, breakfast was good, rooms clean and they provided a snowmobile transfer service to the slopes.

Aim to PleaseWe stayed using points and were pleasantly surprised that we were recognized with Platinum status on checkin with an upgrade to a one bedroom suite on checkin. We were accompanied to our suite by Alice who was very welcoming and spoke great English! We loved a platter of fruit, desserts, alcoholic beverages, and a card from Guest Service Manager welcoming us to the hotel. We were told that shuttle to the ski center would be every 20 minutes, but it was more frequent than that. Ski center was confusing and huge, but we had an amazing English speaking ski instructor named Bird who helped us with our equipment and ski lifts passes. They were part of Sheraton so we didnt have to pay. The inclusion of ski lifts tickets and equipment are one of the many benefits of skiing in China compared to the US. Big thanks to Doris from Front Desk who helped us so much with restaurant reservations, getting refund from our ski center deposit, etc. The Font Desk Staff were all very helpful. We were able to only get the names of Doris, Alice, Tina, and Bob but then other staff members were friendly as well! The morning breakfast buffet had a great mix of eastern and western food. The brezel or bread combined with pretzel at the bake goods were to die for! At one point, I requested that they make fresh pancake for me as I saw one of the guests touch the food. One of the staff, Tiger, was so awesome and made fresh pancakes for me and my husband. Thanks to Tiger, Lilian, Herry, and others staff at breakfast. Theres a free shuttle bus to the airport that we didnt know when we arrived but took on our return flight which was very convenient. Changbaishan Airport was only 30 minutes away. Overall skiing experience in Changbaishan was a lot better than Lake Songhua. We cant wait to return!
