NADA recomendable.

    Too many hills for me'

Was offered to go here as our break to Llandudno was cancelled by Shearings/Ledger coach break. As we travelled by coach we were more or less stranded in a very hilly wilderness, the town of Shap is about 4 miles away there is no proper bus service, [3 buses a week we were told } Got quotes from taxi companies for around £20/£25 one way. The hotel is fine if you have a dog and want to walk, the meal times were rigid we were told that breakfast was at 7.30 and evening meal was at 1830. and you could not change. The bar area is gloomy and pricey (£9 for a double malt whiskey ) They have made some rules one of which was that you could not use the ground floor toilet where the bar is situated, reason given Covid. My room No. 64 was as small as you can get and not as comfortable as I would have liked, there was no housekeeping carried out on this 4 night break, you could go to reception and ask for what you might need. As we were on a coach break we were taken out daily to different towns. There was two ladies who didn't want to go out on the Wednesday, they were told that if they stayed in the hotel there was no bar or snacks until 1700. I would say you really need a car to stay here and like dogs, The food was fine and the staff were good. My main problem is with Shearings/Ledger for sending us mainly elderly people to this hotel.

    Brilliant weekend

My friend and I had a brilliant weekend at Shap Wells Hotel all the staff are very helpful and gave us a very a warm welcome nothing was too much trouble. Due to Covid no entertainment which was a shame.Would highly recommend for a weekend break. Yes the hotel is a little dated but that adds to its charm. Breakfast was superb dinner was good value for money. I do not know what some people expect for the price they have paid

    Management needs training

Its just sadly neglected and nobody gives a damn. It will go the same way as clifton hill hotel a happy memory that is no more. I don't know how they select management but they should not be employed in the hospitality industry I could run it better with my eyes closed. But if they are happy paying a big wage to a no can do personality more fool them. Better management, more communication with very capable staff and I hope it turns round...

Good place to stay for a few days

Quite a big place arrived and got our keys I had a single room but I got 118 a lovely double room with a sofa and a set of chairs. A nice clean room with a good view they provide body wash which is a nice addition. The bed was nice and firm. They supplied teas coffees etc but you could ask for more at reception if you ran out, it would have been nice to have a little tray to put the mugs and spoon on instead of straight on the wooden dressing table but thats just me. Friendly staff I love the old decor plenty of places to sit and relax in the hotel with great surroundings will definitely be coming back. Would recommend
