  Fine for a stop over

  We stayed at Shaolin International Hotel for one night having flown in late that evening from Beijing. The room was large and clean, but a little gloomy with odd beanbag pillows. The bathroom was a wet room which I'm not a massive fan of - I cut short my shower as it looked like it was going to flood the bedroom! Other point we noted was that there were no english speaking movie channels - not that I would ever base my decision on the tv selections. Overall, the room was fine for the night, but a little tired and could probably do with a make over. The breakfast was fine, although when compared to the other hotels we stayed at during our trip, I would rate this to be the worst. Mostly chinese food which did not look hugely appetising. In terms of location, the hotel is situated on a road with not much going on, although we had arrived late when most shops were closed. There were a couple of small convenience shops, and we found one local restaurant which was still open and willing to serve us. As we spent next to no time in the area (we left early the next morning to head to the Shaolin temple) I am unable to comment on its location for other sights in Deng Feng.

  Correct

  The hotel was clean and the room was big. Unfortunately, someone was smoking inside and the smell entered my room, it was terrible for me and I ended up with a big headache. The staff did not speak a word of English, which made it hard for me even to understand where my room was. They did not accept the American Express and I was lucky to have withdrawn some cash earlier that day. The breakfast was typically Chinese, little to no continental food, so I almost ate nothing... To sum up, it is nice if you want to be fully immersed in Chinese culture, but not so good if you do not know Chinese or China (it was my first time in Asia)

  Basic hotel

  Basic hotel, not a 4 star, in my opinion. The rooms are ok, but some renovation is needed. Breakfast consists only of Chinese food, not so much to chose if you are not from China. The personnel was very nice. They cooked us dinner even if it was late and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Food was very good.

  Pleasant decor, nice room

  The room is nicely decorated, the food at the hotel is simple but nice. The bed is comfortable. The toilet is simple but it has hand-held shower. Hot water shower if you are wondering. The room comes with wifi.

  A little run down

  In its heyday this is probably the top hotel here as they have a picture of Jiang Zemin visiting this hotel. But now it is a little run down but still quite comfortable. Actually the breakfast is still good while it may not be up to international 5 star standard.
