    Noisy and poor location

We went to Kaliurang to go trekking. The guesthouse is on the road at least 4 km from the park. We walked along the road towards the park, but it was quite narrow and the traffic was dangerous. Our room was right by the road so it was extremely noisy all night. Most of the vehicles were jeeps and trailbikes going to and from the lava fields. We were there on a public holiday, so it may have been particularly bad. The place was apparently full, so we couldn't change rooms and were only given one towel between the two of us. You have to ask them to turn the hot water on, and it is only warm. We had planned to stay two nights but only stayed one. Communication was difficult as they don't really speak much English.

Well you get what you pay for- and luckily Indonesian ppl remain the friendliest ever

This was the quickest cheapest find for a last minute decision to stay somewhere on the mountain. We booked ahead while in Jogja and just took a taxi from our place in Jogja (was about 120,000). It was very hard to find for the driver but honestly the big blue sign is right on the main rd. going up the hill. It is right at km 22 if you find that. But it is much smaller than most other places around. You get what you pay for here! The man who ran the place was super super great and friendly! He spoke about zero English but we got the message across on a couple things and though he seemed to have no idea we were coming or what booking.com even was- the room was set up and ready and he tried his best to direct us. The Wi-Fi worked much later on after we tried to teach him how to reset the router. He brought us a strange breakfast the next day of hard boiled eggs toast, and chocolate frosting and tea ha. But it was unexpected as not included in the reservationperhaps he had no idea. Anyways he was great when we asked for anything and even helped to get us a taxi the next day as well as set up a jeep to take us up the mountain. Wish we would have asked him before as they day before we went to the merapi museum and talk to the lava tour guys outside to set it up ourselves for the sunrise tour. We were supposed to meet them at the hotel- ready to go at 4am on the porch! Waited 20 minutes and no show so we even walked up to the museum again in the pitch dark but no one was there so sadly we went back and to bed. It was nice out though with the call to prayer going in the dark and the trees and a bit of rain was perfect. We found out the next day supposedly the jeep guy went to the wrong place? As he was the one the old man called the next day in our desperation to do something on merapi as we only had one night there. We did the one hour around and felt satisfied enough- no great views from the top but a couple and the off-road ride was super fun! Though warning it is VERY VERY OFF ROAD like pretty dangerous haha and be prepared for mud and water but we enjoyed it and the super strange stops at the remains from eruption sites of homes and etc. mmm we think the hot water in the room probably would have worked but never cared to ask more for the night- it was so hot out anyways. The biggest issue with the place is that along that road motorbikes, trucks and other loud things NEVER EVER CEASE AT ANY POINT DURING THE DAY OR NIGHT. However if you want to be up on Merapi I now see no way to avoid this- so be prepared for the noise and if you want to walk up the rd. things to be whizzing past your head at high speeds constantly. Thus is Asia. Also, maybe it was the off season and maybe not? But there was ZERO places to eat. When we went for dinner I mean nothing! All things that even looked like dingy reastaurants were closed and the fancy hotels even claimed to have no restaurant. We ate some fried Tempe and rice at a snack stand that was extremely cheap and not bad. Happy enough with an overnight. But you get what you pay for
