Good for business or leisureGood hotel for local business, very good as an inexpensive base for exploring Kyoto area. Older property with older furnishings but very convenient location right next to Seta(Shiga) train station and two convenience stores right outside the front door. Breakfast staff friendly and you have choice of eastern or western fare for breakfast. Easy access to Kyoto (15 minutes) on rail....make sure you take the local trains from Kyoto since only those stop at Seta. Plenty of taxis at the train station.

Exceeded expectationsThis was our first time in Japan and we were doing all our own bookings as part of our year of full time travel. So there was a bit of touch and go not knowing how convenient our lodgings were going to be to sights we wanted to see. This hotel worked out well for us on that regard. We were there to see Kyoto during cherry blossom time. The accommodations right in Kyoto were quite expensive, but this hotel is right across the street from the train station in Seta. It was maybe a 15 minute train ride to Kyoto Station. The room was basic, but quite comfortable, with all the amenities hotels in Japan have. Not as tiny as our room in Tokyo. The staff was helpful. There was even a coin operated laundry machine so we were able to catch up on our laundry. A nice place to base yourself when budget matters.

Have fun dressing up in their night gownsI loved this hotel, perfect spot next to the Seta station with easy access to Kyoto and Osaka. We stayed here as we have friends living in Seta, making it a lot easier for us to maximise our time with them. Because it is next to the station you have access to lots of great conveniences, such as great food and mini-mart stores such as 7-11. The room was large as we had 3 adults staying and it was very comfortable for us, the staff were friendly, and the night gowns they provide were so awesome, that after a few too many cocktails and singing at the karaoke bar around the corner, that at 2am dressing up in them and taking photos was clearly a logical winning thing to do. For food, save your money from a hotel breakfast and walk across the road to the right hand side towards the station to a local bakery and pick up some fresh pastries and breads (it has a yellow sign, no English signage, and has cute flowers out the front - you can't miss it if you walk towards Lotteria). For lunch and dinner (if you are in Seta and not exploring in Kyoto) pop into Wa-ta-mi straight across the road for their great sushi and gyoza or to a little restaurant next to Lawson (right next to the train station) for some fabulous miso ramen.

Great locationIt is worthwhile staying at Seta to give yourself a rest from the busyness of the city. It is easy to access and the hotel is very comfortable with restaurants, convenience stores and transport all within metres.
