The worst Onsen Ryokan I have ever experienced.( ) This is the worst Onsen Ryokan I have ever experienced. In the first place, the welcoming experience from the Taiwanese staff was bad. Apart from not introducing us to the hotel facilities and not teaching us how to wear Yukata, she forced us to decide the size of the Yukata immediately when we were back to the room. Even though we did mention that we would like to try and reply her as soon as we could, she still insisted that we should answer her the size of Yukata immediately, and she said that there were many customers that she needed to serve. This was rude from our point of view. We reported to the hotel receptions about this terrible experience, but they didnt express sympathy towards us, the reception would even said Chinese are horrible ( ) in Japanese, in which I think what the hotel was treating us were horrible. Ironically , hotel catalogue mentioned that Nakai-San will show great sensitivity to the comfort of the guest, such as responding to any customers request, besides, it mentioned that please enjoy the unique Japanese style hospitality at Ryokan, that you have never experienced at Western-style hotels. It was true that the experience in this ryokan was so unique that we had not experienced anything as bad as this in a Japanese ryokan . Furthermore, the hotel didnt change the wet towers , or clean up the trash bin during the house keeping service. So we absolutely have no idea why is it called house keeping. I seldom spend the effort to write comment, but I do it this time, hoping that other customers would not experience what we had, which is unfair for them to being treated unfairly during their vacation.

Never had a worse ryokan experience in JapanWhere to begin? We had booked a standard room for a couple of nights. On arrival, we had difficulty to communicate for the first time of our trip. Clearly, basic Japanese is not enough. Weird in such a touristic spot of Kyushu! We were not properly shown the amenity options of the ryokan. Not welcoming, not helping, the personnel does not seem to care at all. The day after the checkin, the man at lobby does not even recognize you. You have to ask and wait for every basic thing, whereas you get pushed when you're supposed to relax (dinner, waking up for room cleaning). Talking about the room, we were located in a side area where we had to find our way in a maze of service-like stairs. Basically, only premium rooms had easy and indoor access to everything: onsens, zen garden, elevator, lobby. On cold mornings, not so comfortable to have to go outside to reach the public bath! Even shuttle ride back to the bus station on a hill was not offered. Clearly not up to our previous ryokan experiences. Overrated, you won't find any rest in this ryokan, would definitely NOT recommend.

Good average experience of a Ryokan with OnsenOverall a pretty good experience as it was our first ryokan experience with Onsen (hot springs). The place was clean and as always in Japan the people were friendly. But they were too strict on the meal schedules. Also the Onsen piping experienced a problem which lead to a clogging. But it was quickly fix and did not smell bad. We visited other places whilst in town and if we had to come back we would probably go to another one.

Above averageI see a few negative reviews here. I feel they are undeserved. I am from Toronto Canada married to a Hong Kong female in Hong Kong. I went with her parents and brother and uncle. Aside from her they don't speak English that well. I see a lot of "communication" complaints here, but yet with all i've just described here in my situation they, and myself were able to perfectly communicate with the Yumerindo staff. The only time I had a problem is when I couldn't get across what i wanted to say, however when I used basic VERY basic Japanese they understood right away. The staff They did care despite other reviews saying they don't. They parked our car, they took our bags with care, took the time to explain(In English) the in's and out's of the hotel. The negative reviews i see here about them are undeserved. The Room Basic room we had. It was nice and quaint. No complaints from me. Tatami mats were comfortable enough to walk around on and sleep on with the mattress they provide. The Food Fantastic food. My wife is a food snob, and she had zero complaints about the food. So for me who is far more basic in tastes i found this to be superb. Dinner and breakfast are great. Not many snacks or shops near by so buy some stuff from 7-11 or Lawson somewhere before heading in, if you need to snack through the night. The Onsen situation There is a public one that's open most of the time. I can't remember when/if it closes. I didn't use this as i find getting naked with men unsettling. I used a private one. Which you book your time as you check in. You get 1 hr. VERY relaxing and nice. It was a bit cold air but that's ok added to the ambience. You can rebook a second session but it costs i think 500 yen per hour. My complaints would be the TV comes on automatically around 7AM or so, an hour before Breakfast is served at the restaurant. Which was a bit jarring as the volume was a bit of a higher level. Definitely their way of "wake up" call. They came and took the beds away while we were having breakfast which was unfortunate as my wife wanted to head back to sleep after breakfast but couldn't.
