Terrible. Terrible. TerribleI have been at many places in and around Southern Africa. This is the second worst. Filthy, room smells of urine. Carpet so dirty in the bathroom I could stand on it with my bare feet . Skipped breakfast after I saw the lady moving my food around with her fingers. Could not get myself to use shower.

Senate Guesthouse is a real rip-off so bewareThis property is a rip-off. Our booking was made for two nights through Booking.com charged at R2400 a night. At this rate one would expect a good level of quality and comfort. We got neither. The first room had an awful smell. The bed was tiny - ¾ size for two tall adults?. The cupboard was a really old wooden one. It looked like it had been rescued from a dump and just painted black. The towels hanging inside had huge holes in them. We asked for another room as this was unacceptable. The next one was even worse. Same smell but with a whiff of urine. The toilet was inside the shower which itself was old white tiles, tin shower head with stained old plastic slip mats on the floor. The cupboard in this room was a double version of the last one with three measly clothes hangers for two of us. The bed was the real disaster a double but put onto the base of a ¾ so the end of the bed stuck out over the base. The mattress was so old it sunk in the middle. We told the reception guy on duty that we reject the room on the grounds that this was misrepresentation. He then called manager who didnt seem to care and put the phone down on him. We were so disgusted we had them sign a note detailing why were leaving. We handed back the keys and left. All attempts to get refunded have proven fruitless. The manager refused saying we were a no show which is a lie. Booking.com have refused saying, it didnt look that bad and in their opinion they would have stayed there! Unbelievable!

Old, smelly and a rip offMy wife and I booked through Booking.com for two nights. They charged us R4800 so we expected at least a decent level of comfort and quality (this is a four star rate). We didn't get anything of the sort! The first room they showed us was smelly (like dirty socks and damp). The bed was so small we would have to squash up to fit on it. The clothes cupboard was a very old and rickety wooden one with no lock and barely any space for one person's clothes. The towels provided had holes in them. We rejected the room and they then gave us another one which was just as bad. This one had a whiff of urine. The bed was a double but put on a 3/4 base so the mattress stuck out over the end (see picture) The toilet was built into the shower cubicle! The cupboard was slighty bigger but also old, wooden and no lock with three measly hangers between two of us We told the reception guy we refused to stay here as its a complete misrepresentation - they advertised as a 3 star establishment. We made him sign a note as to why we were leaving as evidence. He then phoned the manager and she just put the phone down on him. They have refused to refund us accusing is of being a 'no show' which is a blatant lie. Just as well we have the note and pictures to prove our case. Booking.com have also refused to refund us which I find unbelievable! This is definitely the worst guest house I have ever encountered.

Fawtly TowersThe guest rooms looked like the photos on the booking website however the photos were taken a long time ago and were not a true reflection of the state of the "boutique" guesthouse: I turned the light switch on in one room and the switch came off in my hand- so there were no lights in the bedroom and a lamp had to be brought in for us to use. The bedroom blinds were broken and had a hole in them so the room was not private. The other room's ensuite also had faulty blinds, a cracked bathroom window, frayed and stained bath towels, the bathroom taps were loose from the sink (and had to be secured with one hand while turning the tap on with the other), frayed bed sheets and a musty smell. A lovely cooked breakfast and kind staff.

Nothing Boutique about thisThis so called Boutique hotel is a joke. It is nothing like the photos they have on line. The rooms are in desperate need of a thorough clean and TLC, as is the garden. The rooms smell of damp, the window fittings broken, and when the room above was occupied the water from their bathroom dripped through the ceiling into our room. Bathroom towels were threadbare and had holes in them. The pool is like a fish pond. Would I ever return or recommend this hotel to anyone? DEFINITELY NOT
