    Fantastic location

Good hotel, fantastic views from our balcony, really really stunning. Room clean and nice, breakfast good but dinner not the best. Staff were not that friendly really apart from Maria on the desk, she was lovely and very very helpful. The view really is stunning( cant stress enough lol) beach just over the road, pools were decent with plenty of sun loungers on a daily basis. Elounda not far but some might struggle to walk the distance and in the heat. (ask at reception about bus) Tips- hire a car, the hotel can arrange this. Bed and breakfast would probably be the best Bring beach shoes for the beach over the road Ask Maria anything and she will help :) Overall it was good. If the staff were a bit nicer and the dinner was better then would be excellent

    Unfriendly, with poor facilities

We arrived at 1am desperate for a drink, but the entire place was locked up. A security guard took us to our room in the pitch darkness, and he left us to unpack. We went to breakfast in the morning, and found it was almost a scrum with the Russian's to get to any food. The restaurant staff tried their best to keep the food coming, but it was a lost cause. A lot of people have mentioned the breakfast was the same every day, and indeed it was, but we found there was still plenty of choice if the waitresses managed to re-fill the breakfast items. The evening meals are a lost cause. We tried once, and didn't bother again because the standard of food was rather poor to say the least. The Russians didn't seem to mind, and I think the hotel is geared up for them rather than the Brits. The view of Spinalonga and the surrounding coastline from our large veranda was outstanding. We spent most early evenings there drinking our sun-downers, before walking into Elounda for our evening meal. Its about a 20 or 25 minute scenic walk along a mostly paved footpath which is a nice way to build up an appetite, but it should only be attempted during daylight hours. Also, take care crossing the road from the hotel as it sits on a blind bend. We always paid 6 euros for a taxi back in the dark, but its best to check the price with the driver before getting in, as some wanted 8 or 9 euros. The bar at the Selena is outside on a covered terrace which overlooks Spinalonga. If you want to sit in the sun and take in the view, forget it as no sunshine can get past the strange matted roof. It was often difficult to get a drink because there was nobody to serve us, and the bar like everything else closed at around 10pm. If you managed to find the bar open, you would normally find nobody behind it. The bar person always seemed to be working in the kitchen or elsewhere, and we had to go and find her on several occasions. We have stayed at the Akti Olous hotel in Elounda on a few previous occasions, and it is better than the Selena Village because of its location, friendlier staff and the Skybar. The only thing better at the Selena was our room and its fantastic view, but I don't know if all the rooms had this. If we go to Elounda again, I would try to book somewhere else rather than the Selena. We were late booking this year, and were left with the scraps. Lesson learned.

    Disappointing

We went there with my family for 5 days, the man at the reception was kinda unwelcoming but that wasnt the only problem. Once we went in the room we noticed that there was a window with no curtains so the light in the morning would hit us, the room in total was ok but we didnt expect a lot. The room in total had 4 (we were 4 people) outlets and we could only use 3 of them because one was for the fridge which in order for us to open it you had to kneel on the floor because it was on the ground, not only that the floor was also dirty. We went and asked for a multipurpose outlet () at around 7pm and they said that they couldnt help us at the moment and that we would have to wait till the next day. The breakfast was good and the ladies who worked there were always smiling , the maids were very kind too! The pools where ok and the tennis court was kinda bad looking. Overall the experience wasnt very pleasing and I wouldnt go again !

    OK

Booked this as a birthday surprise for my partner on Love Holidays. Got slightly worried after paying and not seeing many recent reviews (my fault for not doing more research!) so was half expecting to turn up and there not be a hotel there. Thankfully I was wrong! The hotel itself is quite nice and I would say pretty clean. We were met at reception by a woman who was very smiley and quite pleasant, she gave us lots of info regarding the hotel. She took payment for the room tax which I think is about £1.50 a night and also told us that to have aircon in our room we need to pay for that as well (£5 a day). If Im honest I think paying for aircon is a bit of a liberty and I always resent it when I travel to hot countries because obviously Im going to need aircon! A porter was called and showed us to our room, sadly which was right at the top of the VERY steep hill (not for the faint hearted or unfit) but I suppose provided us with a workout every day. - side note : I did ask about the gym but apparently its only open in the mornings and you have to be escorted there. When I went back one morning they were unable to let me in. Our room overlooked the tennis court, which I can confirm is very rundown with the nets flagging a bit and could do with a revamp. The bed was very comfy, although we needed to ask for extra pillows. The toilet seat was broken and there is no hot water in the mornings. However the bathroom was clean and decorated in a stylish fashion. If you need a hairdryer; rooms are not supplied with them but you can ask at reception and they give you one. We were staying on a bed and breakfast board and the breakfast did have a great selection. We ate at the pool bar once but there is literally 4 items on there so not much to choose from. Cant comment on the dinners. The hotel beach, is a very thin strip of sand at the front of the hotel - literally the width of a sun lounger. The staff were always really friendly and helpful and called us a cab whenever we asked. The location of the hotel is a bit far from the town of Elounda, if walking it took us about half an hour but you have nice views as you walk so its pleasant enough. There is a bus service that runs but its very hard to work out when the bus is coming, its down to luck more than anything. Cabs to and from Selena to Elounda are 6 each way. Overall we had a lovely holiday and really enjoyed exploring the surrounding areas, I just feel that some parts of the hotel could do with a bit of work and improvement. Also have to say there is a gentleman who works on reception, who was fantastic! He was so friendly and always tried to help us where possible!

Really nice hotel - attentive staff, attractive room with stunning views from our balconies!

Having just returned from just over a week at Selena, I can safely say our experience doesnt reflect those in the recent negative reviews. Firstly, my partner and I booked the junior suite and were put in room 112. The room was lovely and included three balconys - two of which had stunning views of Spinalonga island and the coast. Lots of sea, sun, landscapes and fishing boats. We had a double bedroom, a bathroom that was clean & modern and a sitting room where there was a tv, fridge, coffee table and sofa bed. The staff couldnt do enough for us - George and Maria at reception helped us with everything from renting a car (which was delivered and collected to and from the hotel with ease) to booking our transfers to and from the airport. We took a day trip to Knossos in Heraklion and Maria called and found out the best prices whilst George helped us order some very reasonably priced Gyros when we arrived late (around 10pm) on our first night. We spent most of our time at the round, adults-only pool which got lots of sun throughout the day and was always quiet during our stay. This pool, although not massive, is deep enough to have a swim overlooking the sea. We didnt have to pay for air con or sun beds on the, admittedly small and stony, beach at the front of the hotel. I assume this was because we booked the junior suite. Just double check what youre paying for when you book and Im sure you can avoid the charges mentioned in other reviews! The walk into Elounda is around 25 minutes - give or take. We walked to and from town most nights. If youre feeling active theres a STUNNING beach about three miles walk away called Kolokythas with crystal clear, blue water which is perfect for snorkelling! A taxi there will cost you around 8 euros! Bar snacks menu at the hotel is limited but the food is tasty and you get a nice big portion for what you pay for! Perfect for lunch. The girls at the bar were lovely and helpful. Breakfast was fine but we only ate there once. The free bottle of wine from the hotel at the end of our stay was a nice touch too! We cant comment on the tennis court or the main pool both looked basic but the rest of the hotel more than made up for that! To summarise, this isnt a 5 star, all inclusive hotel but it IS the perfect base for exploring the island of Crete; Attentive staff, beautiful location and a well-kept, comfortable room with three awesome balconies. I would recommend booking a junior suite for a couple. We really had a lovely holiday!
