Steve in CompatschOK, so you are staying in a new ski resort area, so you cannot expect buildings with traditional character. In that sense this hotel could be anywhere in the world- it is rather bland and featureless. However, the staff are great and are genuinely helpful. The really disappointing aspect of this hotel is the kitchen- honestly the food is very basic and the meals very unimaginative. It's always disappointing when you know you could do a better job in your own kitchen.

One of our favourite places to visitWe love the mountain scenery here, the picturesque Schlern/Sciliar, the largest 'Alm' in Europe. Access is either by cable car or by road on the regular bus travelling up from the village Seis/Suice on the winding serpentine road. Either way is a great experience with opportunities to get some good photo shots. We chanced to be there, when we were able to book a horrse and buggy ride, not cheap, but great, as we were taken on paths too difficult for us to walk, and not inviting motorised traffic. There were many younger people on foot, I guess we all enjoyed the views and the high country feeling, here over 2000 m high, and on this the largest 'Alm' in Europe. If one fancied a longer stay up here, there are many nice looking hotels offering pleasant stays. We had chosen a holiday rental place in the village of Seis/Suice and returned there after our outing. Seis is located in a high valley, itself over 1000 m high. The whole area is part of South Tyrol situated in the wonderful Dolomite Mountain Regions in Northern Italy, where most people are bi-lingual, German/Italian.

Sullen unhelpful staff, subpar roomThis hotel stood out for the poor reception staff from the moment we arrived. It seemed like they were doing us a favor to allow us to carry our bags up 2 flights of stairs (no elevator in this large hotel) to a tiny room with an overhanging dormer easy to whack one's head on, completed by a tiny bathroom and uncomfortable bed. We stayed here with friends and we were both booked together on a self-guided tour. Our friends had a nicer room but when we asked to change our room we were told the "hotel was fully booked". This was clearly not true. We were on the half board plan - the food was adequate and the wait staff, unlike reception, were professional. The buffet is not replenished however, so if you are not there ahead of the large groups that frequent this hotel your choices may be limited. There are many hotels in the area - best advice is to look elsewhere for lodging.

Noisy and unhelpfulHeres the charming view from the premium south facing balcony rooms. They overlook a hire shop and a car park. Oh, and the main valley road. This place is noisy and dominated by groups. Best find somewhere else if you want any peace.

Traditional style, boring foodStayed at their Hotel Plaza for two nights. Hiking in beautiful landscape. Rooms wooden traditional style, good spa and breakfast ok. We chose a menu and even though we had a choice the food was norhing much. Quite tasteless and boring. Reception was nice when we came but when we left the Non-Italian lady was irritated when I asked questions about the invoice. Very bad and not service minded.
