LocationWe were at this hotel for a reunion meeting with about 80-100 friends. On arrival the hotel looked beautiful. Sadly the welcome lacked warmth from the Receptionist. Our room, a corner lake view was stunning. Huge room with magnificent views and a balcony. First night buffet dinner the food was extremely poor. Service also. Ordered wine but there were no wine glasses. Had to ask twice and we seemed to be a bother. Next day was our gala dinner and instead of being on the stunning terrace again we were in a very brightly lit room. The food was good and the service, from a select couple of waiters, was friendly this time. The live music was fine. Breakfast was average hotel fare. The buffet area is extremely tiny and can be crowded. Again, grumpy waitresses. This is a conference hotel and I would be sorry for solo travellers sitting next to large groups who can be noisy. The staff dont go the extra mile as they are used to these large groups and dont feel the need to bother I guess. On check out, the same indifferent farewell. No cheery thank you, did you enjoy your stay and safe onward journey. Just Auf wiedersehen with barely a look up from the desk. The 4 stars is for the view, the room and breakfast on the terrace. Unless you are part of a group I would look elsewhere.

Holiday to an amazing hotelOnce again we visited this fantastic hotel, the last time being 4 years ago. We found the staff so helpful and friendly from the ladies at breakfast time to the waiters and waitresses in the evening. Yes this is a mainly Austrian/German speaking hotel but that was its charm and we never felt unwelcome or uncomfortable at any point in our two week stay. In fact, to the contrary, we were made to feel incredibly welcome and found a smile and a greeting to other guests and staff went a long way. The food was sublime and the packed lunches were lovely, we especially enjoyed the Friday bbqs. This is a hotel that does everything to ensure that every guest is catered for and looked after. The views in the picture can never capture the beauty an magic of this incredible location.

Beautiful HotelThis hotel is in a stunning location overlooking the Wolfgang See, with gardens going down to the lake where there is a deck for sunbathing and the possibility to take out pedalo boats or paddle boards. The food was delicious and the rooms extremely comfortable. The service in the restaurant was excellent, but unfortunately we did not find the service at the reception desk as friendly as we would expect from a hotel of this standard. Also we felt that it would have been nice to have had some sort of bar/restaurant service by the lake. Then this hotel would definitely merit five stars.

WonderfulIt was good enough that we already want to go back, having left only a few hours ago. The bar wasn't open but the waiter served us in the comfy lobby and we sat there reading our books for over an hour. It was most enjoyable, the sofa was comfortable and it felt like being in an old castle, with all the dark wood surrounding us. I had a large Stiegl and a whisky. We were the only people dining there and were surprised about how excellent the rainbow trout was. The waiter allowed us to play our on music there which was quite something. The breakfast was also very good and we had a nice buffet lunch. I first felt a bit let down when I realised that I couldn't see the lake in my lake-view room. I had to go on the balcony and it was a bit too cold to enjoy it. But the surroundings and the views are wonderful. As I said, we will return.

Nice view, shame about the hotelThis hotel is in a superb location, with views over the Wolfgangsee and good facilities on the lakefront (bathing area with boats). But the hotel is so old, the service so bad and the prices so astronomically high, that it is really a place to avoid. Our arrival was a nightmare. Sure, we arrived at 9pm, but in a hotel of this price category, that should not be a problem. But there is no reception after 8pm, and no staff were visible except a busy waitress serving a big seminar group. It also took us half an hour to find the car park entrance in the dark, as it is far from the address of the hotel, which we had programmed into our navigation. In the end, we saw some room cards behind reception with our name (but no kind of message), took them and let ourselves into our room (which took a while to find). The room had a lovely view, but no minibar, weak wifi and shower not bath. There were spiders webs on the outside of the window. The breakfast is a totally standard hotel breakfast. Staff are mostly very cold and distant. The gate to the private lakefront bathing area was not locked, so anybody could go in (tip for anybody in St Gilgen). If there is no seminar group in the hotel, it is pretty dead after 8pm, and the bar is closed. The hotel seems to focus on seminar groups, which are prioritised over individual guests. Im not sure to what extent this is all due to COVID19. In the end we felt so uncomfortable and ill at ease in this hotel that we asked to leave after 2 days of our 3 day booking. The manager, while not admitting any fault, allowed us to cancel our 3rd night and pay only half price for the first 2 nights. We had booked at 290 per night including breakfast, which is apparently a big discount on normal rates (I shudder to think what normal rates are). I dont think this place, in its current condition, is worth over 200 at most, even with the view and the location. The service is two stars at best. We were relieved to get away from the awful vibe.
