Terrible nights sleepThis hotel should have been a perfectly nice place to stay. The rooms were clean and attractive and the staff were really nice. However it is an old properly with paper thin walls. A large tour group arrived at 1:30am and spent the next few hours laughing, chatting, going up and down the stairs regularly etc making no effort to keep the noise down. Other guests were also in the corridors in the middle of the night looking similarly put out but the hotel staff were nowhere to be seen and appeared not to be making any effort to get the group to quieten down. The next morning the hotel staff acted like nothing had happened and it was only after we raised the issue that they said they were aware of the problem and had asked the group to be aware of others (we had heard them showing the group into several rooms at 1:30am and that sounded like an entire school group had arrived). Being kept up all night was bad enough but the lack of apology in the morning was shocking. You cannot let tour groups check in at that time in such a property. Horrendous.

Best adress in ÜnyeVery nice Ottoman House with a nice garden. Very interesting lobby area with historical furniture. Delicious breakfast with local products. Very friendly personal. Very convenient downtown location, walking distance to everywhere.

Restored Ottoman mansionThe Sebile Hanim is on a little side street within walking distance of the center of town and the shore. The rooms vary in size and we were able to choose one with 2 beds, a wall of windows (that open), large bathroom, and a little sitting area. The building is handsomely restored; you can see it's pre-restoration condition in a photo in the courtyard. The breakfast is a buffet in a large stone room on the ground floor, inhabited by Fike, a parrot who will wish you good morning in Turkish. We planned to stay in Unye on Tuesday night in order to see the market that appears on Wednesday morning. Happily the market settled right on the streets around our hotel. The farmers come with their fresh produce: kale, pears, radishes, eggs, pomegranates, yogurt, etc. We couldn't figure out why during our 2 weeks in Turkey we were served no yogurt at breakfast. Our trip from Sinop to Trabzon was thin on handicrafts, but in Unye there are still coppersmiths, and we bought a couple of coffee makers from a hospitable craftsman who treated us to coffee. We visited the Muze Evi (House Museum) where docent Ihsan guided us through the restored Ottoman rooms and gave us a short puppet show. Here you can feel the elegance and beauty of the city during the Ottoman period when many mansions adorned the hills. Now almost all the mansions are crumbling in their little gardens. This museum is free and charming. Ihsan advised us to drive on the old road that edges a peninsula a few miles east and north of Unye, Of course it's longer, but it gets you off the monotonous main highway. I think we were walking in the eastern part of Unye when we came upon a very large covered market selling produce, dried herbs, farm tools, batteries, clothing. We felt lucky to find this since we had read nothing about it.

Very special place to stayIt is worth visiting Unye just to stay at this hotel. It is rare to have the opportunity to stay somewhere with such history and atmosphere and which has been restored so beautifully. It is in a perfect location, and offers a variety of unique rooms, from the cosy attic rooms to large deluxe rooms with stone fireplaces and Turkish bathrooms. It was nice to be given an individual breakfast as opposed to a buffet and the staff made my experience feel more like a homestay than a hotel - helping me with anything I needed, offering me tea and the owner speaks English and was keen to chat and offer me advice about the local area. I also bought some of their delicious homemade strawberry jam which was a lovely souvenir. Make sure you don't miss out on this special place.
