  Calm hotel close to Autobahn, perfect stopover

  We were looking for a hotel close to Autobahn between Hamburg and Bremen for just one night and found Schröder. It was a pleasant stay. The rooms were clean and had just everything we needed, the staff was very friendly during whole our stay. We had dinner in the restaurant during the evening and the food was properly cooked and tasted very good. Early in the morning we were served a typical german breakfast in all its positive way. Ham, wurst, cheese, fresh bread and everything you might feel for in the morning. Everything served with a smile! The only thing that could improve is the WiFi in the rooms. It was perfect in the public areas but did not work in the rooms.

  Meal time

  Had a lovely meal in really nice clean surroundings staff are very pleasant meal was fresh made warm and really tasty , this restaurant is in a small town really clean plenty of shops pubs restaurants everyone we met was very pleasant very helpful

  Nice hotel, but need to fix a couple of things

  I visited the hotel for 3 nights on business. It is a lovely welcoming hotel with a large free car-park. The hotel enjoys a fairly isolated location with not much around it in Gross Meckelson. So remote in fact, there is zero-to-limited mobile phone reception. The staff I found always friendly and welcoming throughout the hotel. The building is split into two parts and my room was in an annexed-building just across from reception. I had room 13, which is towards the far end of the annex on the ground floor. The room itself was nice and clean and over the course of the 3 nights, I slept brilliantly. The room did have a couple of faults though. Firstly, the cold water pressure was like a trickle at times in the sink. The shower temperature also fluctuated on occasion leading to some choice words. Also, the internet, which pulls mid-25gb in the restaurant, wasn't good enough to hold a whatsapp conversation in the room - it really was terrible, and given the lack of mobile signal, this doesn't function as a business hotel well. I guess they need to look at adding repeaters throughout. We had a hotel BBQ evening, that the company booked and it was terrific. We all really enjoyed it - having a private terrace and room with good BBQ food. The second night we ate a-la-carte from the menu and I have to say the food was fab. The breakfasts were also good with a decent range of hot and cold foods, yoghurts, cereals, seeds etc etc. On booking.com the hotel boasts a modern fitness room - here's the quote : "Leisure facilities at the Schroeder include a sauna and a solarium. There is also a fitness area with modern equipment." I have to say, this is an absolute and downright lie. They have two machines, both of the absolute cheapest quality you could ever imagine. A terrible quality bicycle and an equally terrible elliptical trainer. Both pretty much unusable. What the hotel does have though is a location right next to a lovely walking/running trail that starts in the woods directly off the car-park to the rear of the hotel. The hotel does make the most of this feature and hands out map-cards that you can take with you. I walked partially round the track that has a full length of around 9.6km and takes you through meadows, woods, past lakes and rivers. It is very beautiful. The hotel is really nice, but there is room for improvement. If they seriously want business guests here, they must improve the internet connectivity in all the rooms throughout the hotel, take a look at the water pressure in at least a couple of the rooms (a colleague had the same issue), and get some good quality exercise machines to match the booking.com claims.

  Very nice

  Newly refurbished. Spacious rooms. Very nice sauna and relax room. Nice staff. Remember to put up the do not disturb sign on the door to avoid being woken up by the cleaners. (They woke us up at 8 a.m. even though we were staying just one night, obviously not aware of what rooms were empty and ready to be cleaned. Hopefully they will change the routine after our feedback.)

  Very good hotel, let down by atrocious wi-fi. Not good for business stays.

  The hotel is somewhat isolated although easily accessible. The rooms are now modern and well appointed, with a reasonably good bathroom. Spotlessly clean. The restaurant has a very good menu for an evening meal for such a hotel. A good choice and interesting options. But the hotel for anyone staying on business, or indeed who wants to access the internet in their room, is massively let down by very poor wi-fi, mostly non-existent in the room, AND no mobile phone signal worth talking about. So be aware that this is not the hotel for anybody needing to work/connect to the internet whilst staying here.
