  A good overnight stay

  The small market town of Meppen is reminiscent of nearby Dutch towns just across the border. The hotel is an easy stroll from the station and represented a handy overnight stop before an afternoon flight from Bremen. It is situated as its name suggests on the pedestrianised market place, and though the hotel reception is located on the street behind, access can be gained through the restaurant at the front. The welcome was friendly and the room comfortable (if the orange element of the decor was not exactly to my taste!) Free Wi-fi worked well, the code being obtained at reception. Generous portions of tasty food were on offer in the atmospheric restaurant, again with friendly service. The minor downside came at breafast time. The offer was unexciting though perfectly adequate, but the lady on duty was also doubling up at the reception desk, with the result that tables were slow being cleared and people were struggling to find suitable spaces. She was very pleasant and helpful, however, and gradually things got sorted. Beware of the coffee pots! I found that I had managed to pour some of mine onto the pristine tablecloth - for which apologies - by trying to be over-careful.

  A good hotel in the center of the Emsland region

  Last month I decided to spend a week in he city of Meppen, and I spent five days in the Hotel Schmidt am Markt. My purpose was to visit each day a different place near the city using the bicycle and therefore I choose this hotel because it is situated downtown an offers a place where you can park your bicycle. The rooms are clean and comfortable.. Unfortunately, the WLAN connection offered is not a safe one, so that your computer system refuses to work with it. The hotel restaurant is known in the city for its good food and service. The breakfast offered in the morning was good and so were also lunch and diner. When I checked in, I noticed an add recommending the clients to book directly. Since I had booked through the Emsland Touristic office I compared the room prices and the result showed that the price I paid was 15 to 20 percent higher.

  Cozy hotel

  I stayed here for one night during a business trip. The hotel is located in the center of the small town of Meppen. It's a small and cozy room and the rooms are in a very good and modern condition. The size of the room is good. The bed was a little bit too hard for me and as always when you stay at a hotel the pillows are oversized and not comfortable for my taste. The breakfast was very good with many options to choose from. And the staff was very friendly. The Wifi was OK and also free. They didn't have any parking, but there was a parking space just around the corner where we paid about 5 EUR from afternoon until 0900 next day. Overall I think this is a good hotel and I would stay here again.

  Friendly staff, Great Location and Cozy room

  I stayed in 3 different hotels in Meppen and this one is the best! From checking in, breakfast until check out was SuperB! The rooms are spacious and clean too. I highly recommend this hotel for you guys. :)

  Really, really lovely!

  The loveliest gasthaus we've ever stayed in. It is immaculate, and our room was spacious and very comfortable. The restaurant serves exceptionally good food, the breakfast was excellent, and the service was friendly and professional. We enjoyed every bit of our stay, and definitely would book here again.
