  Windows, Pillows, and Pastries... oh, my!

  My mom, sister and I settled into the tidy little room at Schmid und Alfa for two nights. Our room was small but spotless. The bathroom was plenty roomy and had a nice shower. The beds were comfortable and the people were friendly. But the things we most enjoyed were the giant feather pillows, the view of the lake (and the ferry) from the big windows, and the tasty breakfast spread featuring several kinds of pastries. I would not hesitate to stay there again and again. Some people have commented about the noisy road. It was not a factor for me because I sleep with ear plugs anyway.

  Friendly Cosy Home from Home

  The Schmid und Alfa hotel is located about a seven minute flat walk from Brunnen railway station, by the lakeside and close to the departure point for lake steamer trips to Luzern and Flüelen. The views from the hotel, west along lake Luzern and east along lake Uri are spectacular. The original Schmid part of the hotel has more spacious rooms, reception, lounge and breakfast rooms. The Schmid Stübli bar/restaurant provides drinks, snacks and evening meals for guests that book half board accommodation. The more recently built Alfa part has smaller rooms that are budget priced. They are clean, cosy, have comfy beds, TV's, refrigerators, en-suite facilities and have access to free fast WiFi. Breakfasts are continental style with a good range of cereals, fruit drinks, breads, cold meats, salad items, fruits and hot drinks available from a multi-function coffee/tea machine. Maria or Mirra are always there to ensure that you get what you need without problem. They are also able to provide friendly helpful advice and information about local events and excursions, although you may just prefer to sit outside and enjoy the wonderful views from the lakeside. Brunnen is much quieter than its well known neighbour Luzern, but it does have quite a good range of shops, several ATM's, pharmacies and a post office. Luzern is only forty five minutes away by train or just under two hours by boat. For those interested in mountain excursions, Urmiberg is well worth a visit, whilst Mt Rigi can be accessed via Arth-Goldau giving excellent panoramic views of the high alps. This trip was included on the Swiss Pass during 2018. For a friendly, cosy stay, I have no hesitation in recommending the Hotel Schmid und Alfa.

  A Wonderful Surprise with Kind Staff!

  By far our favorite place along our entire trip! Staff were very kind and helpful! Location spotless and very comfortable. Breakfast on Easter morning was very nice with genuine chocolates. The view allowed for Windows to be left open and to fall asleep to the sounds of the water and waves. Location is great.

  Great hotel for a stay in Brunnen

  Best location in Brunnen. Great lake views from most of the rooms, friendly and hard-working staff and a warm welcome. Good breakfast too and while the rooms were a little small, they were very clean. Soundproofing between the rooms is not the best but the rooms are double glazed so cut out street noise. Would go back!

  Deception

  Very nice staff, good breakfast on a nice terrasse with view on the lake. Great location. Our room in Alpha hotel was noisy (walls too thin) and the window was facing a wall 50 cm apart. No more free room with lake view, but definitly not a great stay though the room was comfortable and clean
