  Uncommonly hospitable

  Due to airline flight time changes I arrived at 0045. Free shuttle was there to pick me up, receptionist welcoming with a fresh fruit drink. She even opened the bar to serve a glass of wine! Pool lovely and refreshing, food good. Reception arranged private island tour which was great and reasonably priced. Room had everything I needed. Fantastic New Zealand ammenity products including a sweet bag to take home un used products! Scenic Hotel gave me a wonderful impression of Tonga for my short stay.

  Tired hotel with very dated facilities

  Only spent a day waiting for flight out. That was long enough. The positives are it is air conditioned. The negatives can in some cases be put down to the age of the hotel and the 2-3 refreshes that had been applied.

  Great Staff

  Great staff and service, however the Hotel is in need of maintenance and upgrading in areas. Our beds were very Hard, that would be a good place to start upgrading. The food in the restaurant was really good, can highly recommend the fish curry. Was disappointed that a Well known NZ chain of Hotel was not up to the high standard that the other hotels are.....which was what I was expecting.

  A haven

  I loved staying at this hotel which felt like a haven at 3 a.m. after our flight from Sydney to Tongatapu. Located close to Fuaamotu Airport, the hotel is ideally situated to welcome you to Tonga. We stayed there for just a couple of nights on our arrival in Tonga followed by one night before we left but we could easily have used the hotel as a base from which to explore the island of Tongatapu. The bedrooms were clean, comfortable, quiet, with heavy curtains to keep out the morning light; the restaurant which was spacious, culturally decorated served good food (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Most importantly, the staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful. I would highly recommend the Scenic Hotel to anyone travelling to Tonga.

  Very comfortable layover

  I booked this hotel because I wanted a convenient layover, onward from Vava'u. It's very close to the airport. The hotel was surprisingly well-presented - it felt like a hotel that is furnished to be comfortable to westerners, while being local enough that they still feel like they've arrived to their exotic holiday (Southeast Asians, you know what I'm talking about!). The room was good and comfortable, even though the door needed a big of jigging to get the key to work. The staff were friendly and lovely, especially in the restaurant. Food was good, with a just enough range of pescatarian options for a short layover stay (not too sure about vegetarian). The efficiency of the airport transfer mediation is questionable, though. The pickup took a while to arrive, but that was because my incoming flight was re-timed to much earlier (btw, this seems to be normal travelling through Tonga, so it's a good idea never to make tight same-day transits), and I was not able to call the hotel (I did not get a local SIM card because the submarine cable to Tonga snapped just before my trip, and I wouldn't have got data anyway). But my outgoing flight was more critical, as it was a really early and inconvenient sort of hour - I was supposed to have a wakeup call, which I confirmed so that it would be passed on across shift changes, but this did not happen. Luckily I woke up anyway, and then it turned out my airport transfer driver still had to be woken up. They still got me to the airport in time to check in, though. I'm not sure if this hotel is meant to be an 'airport hotel', but if so, island time or not, this part should be the #1 service.
