    Good but not great

When you stay in a ryokan it is because of the food and the hot spring. And on both counts it is just average for the hot spring and good but not excellent for the food. The hot spring spa is quite a small single hot pool and another smaller one outside without any view at all. The food is not bad by Japanese standards but for a ryokan standard it would just be good and not excellent (as there is no sashimi in the kaiseki dinner!!) but then it could be that we were also spoilt after having stayed at the best in Noguichi Bourou and Takinoya in Noboribetsu Hokkaido. However the breakfast was excellent. Later after breakfast we took a stroll to the hotel owned vegetable farm situated just 300m away where the hotel grows their own entire range of vegetables and mushrooms. Looking at the freshness and quality of their vegetables we realized then why this hotel cuisine is so highly rated despite the lack of seafood in their cuisine. Another negative aspect of this ryokan is that most of the rooms do not have a bathroom and guests are expected to take their baths in the communal hot spring.

    Just don't wanna leave

Stayed 1 night in May with en-suite onsen room. Hotel provide free shutte from Kameoka station. Rooms are fantastic, great size with sofa and Japanese style tatami seating area, provided with some drinks and snacks too. Beds are comfortable with aroma diffusers to help for a good night sleep. The outdoor wooden tub can tightly fit 2 person, or they provide an extra foot bath bucket for you to wait and take turns, Indeed you cannot bath over 15,20 minutes per time, so it works too. Kamoeka is one of the oldest with high quality minerals, it is known for recovery. Dinner are quite well but not the best too, vegetables by their local farms taste really good just if you are thinking about the lavish sashimi or beef meal, then this is not the same. Breakfast are buffet not set serving but quality also quite well. We checked in at 6pm as we first thought it would be boring to be their too early as nothing much to do, but we ended up regret that we should have be their sharp by 3pm. Down side.....maybe the room is with a fence, around shoulder high, the greens out there is not designed as exclusive and this hurt the view and ambience a bit.

    Wow! Nicest Onsen Hotel

My wife took me here for a romantic holiday. This was the nicest Onsen Hotel I've been in! We stayed in one of the rooms with a private Onsen. It was perfect! The temperature was so nice for an outdoor Onsen. They provide yukata (nice robes) to change into and you can wear them all around the hotel, day and night. One of the things that I really liked was the kotatsu (heated dining table) - best invention ever on a cold December day! Also included in the room is a few beers to enjoy . There is free WiFi in the hotel lobby area, but not in the upper level rooms. I recommend checking in early, so you can make the most out of the day! The dinner was a great Japanese style multi-course selection. What is unique about it is they grow all of their vegetables on site! You can even tour their farm. The breakfast is buffet style and has plenty to choose from.

Great staff, food, hot spring and room

We visited there on 31st January to 1st February. All staff who were at the reception desk, places to eat dinner and breakfast, and even a guy who seemed to be kind of a constructor in the lobby had smile on their faces all the time and very friendly. We had a buffet for crabs and shrimps for dinner and it was really nice as well. Although it was hard to take out meat from it since we weren't that used to eat it. While struggling it, you get hungry because the meat was little in each crabs. But overall, it was fun and nice how they prepare several ways to enjoy the food. Regarding to breakfast, we could get both Japanese and western style breakfast with rice and bread, and tea and coffee for example. It was a buffet also so you could eat as much as you want as well as the dinner. The shared hot spring bath had two types of baths and it was either hot not cold, just perfect temperature. I wished there were a few more types of bath or sauna. It wasn't crowded at all but relaxing. We chose a Japanese style room with tatami mats and attached bathroom. It was very clean and it had everything we needed. My partner prefers taking a bath or shower without caring others(not in a shared bathroom) so it was great they prepared the room for us. It would have been much better if he could enjoy the same water of the hot spring in the private bathroom. It's so hard to find a place where has a Japanese style room with a private bathroom attached so the room is for people who are like us. They give you two keys for each room so it can be pretty convenient if you and your friends or family go somewhere separated. We really enjoyed our stay at this place. You can take a shuttle bus between Kameoka station and the place and it's super convenient for people who can't go there by car. Also the driver was friendly even though he had only us to bring to the place and station. If you have a car, I definitely recommend the place and it seems there're some sightseeing spots so it would be convenient to look around. If you can't go there by car, the purpose of a stay should be relaxing. But they have a shuttle bus as I mentioned so I recommend here if you go there for relaxing because it takes only an hour from the center of Kyoto city. (About 30mins from the center to Kameoka station by JR line and 30mins more to the place by shuttle bus)

    Beautiful surroundings, comfortable stay

This is a traditional Japanese style ryokan with onsen so the tatami guest room not included bath room. All the staff are very polite, nice and willing to help. I can enjoy the big area there. Free car park available. I reserved dinner with sweet shrimp and crab snack pot which was in season. The taste of dinner and breakfast just fair for me but the quantity were enough. Overall good services, clean room, good onsen and you can even shop for souvenir within the hotel. The views of surroundings also good too.
