Mixed feelingsSarbacher is a nice hotel tucked away in a side valley of the Northern Black Forest at some 3,000 ft. elevantion. Hence, it is one of the few places in the region were you can do some downhill skiing during the winter months and marvellous cross-country skiing. Across the year it is a hiking paradise. The hotel is combined with a restaurant that serves regional dishes which is clearly above - the good - average. The rooms are spacious and nicely furnitured. Why then mixed feelings? The hotel is owned by the Sarbacher familiy and I have to say that they have been quite rude to my wife and when I challenged this simply denied that (while we would have both be happy with a simply apology). It came as no big surprise that we were not allowed to have dinner in the panoramic restaurant (because our old Labrador lady that accompanies us since many years on all our trips was with us), but had to eat in the bar area. Although the food was very good we decided to have our dinners in a restaurant outide.

Mountains and ForestThis was a decent and clean property. We were expecting a room with 4 single beds, but there were only 3. An inflatable bed was set up on the floor. The breakfast was very good. This was the only hotel that offered us the ability to make our own fresh-squeezed orange juice. It is a bit of a drive from Gernsbach, up a narrow, 2-lane winding road. Not for the meek. I had no problem with this, having driven this type of road many times before. The service is good. However, the staff's English is very limited, and hinders better communication with the guest. Additionally, the room rate is expensive considering the distance from the selected destination, and the level of service provided.

UnfriendluI was very surprised to find the staff at this hotel unfriendly and was rather disappointed. We entered with all our luggage though the restaurant and were unsure of where to go. No one bothered to assist us and point us in the right direction. Had to work it out alone! Our room was small and rather cramped. Pillows shocking and I would definitely ask for an additional pillow on check in. The area is gorgeous and speaks for itself.

Good Stay on the West WayHotel Sarbacher stands proud in a beautiful notch across from a large nature reserve and is conveniently located for West Way walkers. Our bedroom overlooked the restaurant patio and was noisy during the day and quiet at night. While we found the staff curt and prices high, the wild game dinner was delicious, and breakfast was simply amazing. Overall a good stay.

3x bikers popped in for lunchWe were greeted by blonde woman who shows us to our seats in an unwelcome fashion, we asked for two coffees and a tea she replied black tea I said no with milk , this I had to repeat several times , She then replied rr milk which was the same as what I had said , she then walked off , shaking her head? We ordered pork in bread crumbs x 3 , it came with chips you could count about 8 on each plate , this was when all the locals were getting extra large portions, then we asked for the bill and then wanted to pay by credit card, she then huffed and went to get the machine ,then the credit card was thrown back on the table with no thank you or any thing , this was by far the most rudest place we have visited while in the black Forrest .Unless your German do not go to this place as your not welcome , very rude biggish blond woman in her late 40s , avoid this place its a shame because the food was ok
