  Disappointed...

  I was expecting a lot and must admit that, considering the price paid, I have been disappointed, mainly by the Service. Staff is more concentrated on its tasks than on client needs and does not make you feel welcome. 1) This is the only hotel I have been to in Malaysia with a locked entrance door 2) There is no breakfast provided (as expected) whereas it would be very easy to organize (room available). 3) All places indicated for breakfast (except next door restaurant) were still closed at 9 AM 4) No "good bye" / "have a nice trip" when you give your key back: Nothing... even when you (the guest) clearly thank them for the stay and say "Good bye".

  A gem of a boutique hotel

  The hotel is set in the old town and occupies at least two adjoining buildings. The rooms, differently sized, are large and well designed and decorated. Great use of wood and period piece furnishing. I stayed at the hotel twice, once in a room that opened out to a courtyard and another with a room facing the main road. The latter was surprisingly not noisy, as Ipoh traffic dies down at night and the humming of the air conditioning doubles up as a white noise machine. Don't forget to try out the adjoining coffee shop, Lim Ko Pi (drink coffee), which serves a traditional Malaysian fare. I particularly appreciated the vegetarian items especially the vegetarian curry mee, which made for a spicy breakfast. The local coffee is good and ask to be seated in the courtyard garden.

  Fun Non-Corporate Hotel Experience

  The Sarang Paloh hotel was an excellent venue from which to experience Ipoh -- it's located in the Old Town and shares an owner with the cafe next door, which provides excellent breakfast. They also arranged a cab for me from the Ipoh airport, and the driver (Chong) took me to most of the sites of the area, recommended the best food, and ensured I had a great experience. The accomodations themselves are simple, but comfortable, and the staff went out of their way to make sure I was taken care of. The "nicer" hotels in Ipoh are not as convenient to the tourist areas, so for me this was the right choice.

  Friendly, Clean & Super Friendly

  I found this hotel on Agoda. From the pictures and comments, I thought I would give it a try considering the food price. At arrival, we were greeting by a super friendly fellow. I have been in the area before, and I know how busy the main road could be even in the middle of the night. Although the hotel even provides hear plugs for guest, when I found out the room would be facing the main road, I got worried. I asked if they would have another room not facing the main road, and the gentlemen quickly changed the room for me without hesitation. Granted that there seemed to be only one more more occupied for the night, I appreciated the gesture. I offered a nice tip, but he insisted not to accept it. About the room, it is really a lot bigger than what it looks like on pictures. There is huge rain shower and good water pressure to let you enjoy the ride. The mattress is good to allow me for a long deep sleep. I lost the key, and at checkout the manager seemed very sorry to charge me the lost key, but the rules are rules. I have no problem to pay for the lost key.

  Classic hotel

  Pros: Classic heritage design - like a Peranakan style, instagramable spot, close to Concubine lane you just have to cross the road. Parking is opposite the hotel building. Kitchen area for dining and use of refrigerator. Cons: My room was facing the street. It can get noisy but they provided you with an earplug. No breakfast included.
