  Excellent Ryokan

  The Hotel is very good. The owner is very kind and warm welcome. Room is clean. Shared restroom but very clean. There are 2 Bathrooms indoor and outdoor. You can make it private by hang the sign provided by the ryokan. Indoor bathroom is excellent. It has shower area and on-sen. The breakfast is very delicious. I really love this hotel.

  Best hotel ever!!!

  I have been many places and this is the best hotel ever. I have much impressed. This hotel has 3 private onsen (1 outside and 2 inside) and you can borrow bicycle free. You can see a very great mountain view from a bedroom window when you wake up. This place is very quiet and good to sleep.

  Beautiful Ryokan in the countryside

  Beautiful Ryokan in the quiet countryside of Yufuin; beautiful Japanese house with 2 indoor n 1 outdoor private Onsen bath available on the first floor, Second floor are the guest rooms and common restroom. Tanaka couple are really nice and friendly, not much spoken English but all info are printed in English & for checked-in guests. There're 8bicycles available for free use. Dinner- Around the neighborhood are few local eateries for dinner, opposite Lawson. You can see the wooden sign placed outside the eateries when it's in operation although Restaurants and shops at Main Street start closing at 6pm, there's still dining available around the tanaka neighborhood. We Walked into one for dinner opposite Lawson (see pic), an oji-San was alone, we couldn't read the jap menu n he prepared a simple home cook stir-fried chicken onion with rice after some sign language n simple jap words, it taste good and inexpensive; 2 big chicken rice bowls and 2 small side dish plus a big bottle of Asahi beer costs¥1950. We even had small chat with simple jap words n he is such a friendly grandpa... Alternatively, cup noodle and canned drinks/beers are available at the tanaka itself. Breakfast are awesome, exquisite Japanese style served with fluffy rice n a great view overlooking the mountain. Lots of photo opportunities both inside and outside the ryokan. Location is not so far from train station if u can figure out the route, especially first timer who's not familiar with the neighborhood & with luggages, about 15mins walk or more if u lost your way. Would suggest taking a cab from train station, ¥640 exact to the Tanaka. Tell the driver Tanaka n they know the location. Tips:***There's a short cut from the tanaka to the Main Street by cutting through an alley which is just few steps behind the guesthouse on the left. Walk to end of alley n turn right, continue walking n pass by a Lawson ( opposite are the eateries) & further up is the Main shopping Street. Ask the local for Lawson if unsure n use that as your direction guide, that'll save some time. Yufuin station- there's luggage deposit opposite the station diagonally on the right, lockers for smaller luggage and a deposit area inside the counter for bigger luggages. Horse carriage n tourist car available for touring the town, check with info counter in the station. There's a free foot spa for tired travelers to soak their feet in, it's at the first shop opposite the station on the left.

  Excellent and value stay!

  I like Sanso Tanaka! Even though it's not very near to the shopping street in Yufuin, it becomes its merit, too. Sanso Tanaka also provides free bikes so that we can travel all around Yufuin at ease. Quiet and lovely Ryokan stay with both indoor and outdoor spring baths, I enjoyed the breakfast here too.

  An amazing stay at a beautiful ryokan!

  It was my first time staying in a ryokan and Sansoh Tanaka did not disappoint. In fact, it greatly exceeded my expectations. The ryokan is approximately 7-minutes away from Yufuin station on foot. You wouldn't mind the short walk as the town is extremely charming. The staff is immensely accommodating and wonderfully thoughtful. They put utmost care into everything they do for their guests. We arrived in Yufuin 2 hours before check-in and decided to drop off our luggage at Sansoh Tanaka. We were warmly welcomed by the proprietor and proprietress. They allowed us to leave our things and even let us borrow their bikes before we even checked in! They also gave us a detailed map of the area with recommendations on where to eat and the scenic routes to take. Room was clean and huge-- we didn't expect such a big room for 2 people. Also, the VIEW is priceless! I loved waking up to the twin peaks of Yufudake. Toilets were always clean. The inn also has a microwave and refrigerator should you wish to heat up your food and chill your highballs. The 3 onsen were wonderful and was such a serene experience. Lastly, the breakfast was delicious!!! I believe they grow their own vegetables which made for an unforgettable meal. I loved everything about Sansoh Tanaka! The place is highly recommended!
