Cosy luxuryMy husband and I sought to stay in a nice place for Valentine's, and we thought we'd give Sanctuary lodge a go. What initially attracted us on their website was the fact that children under 14 yo we're not allowed ( we are not big fans of kids, especially when we are trying to have a quet time to ourselves). So, without any further thinking, we made a booking for two nights, hoping that the place would have other nice features. When we arrived, we were amazed by the beauty of the mansion! We were greeted by the lovely Susan, who welcomed us to our room. The room is huge, beautiful, has a balcony, a walk in wardrobe and a massive bathroom. What's amazing is that the shower cabin has two shower heads -two people can enjoy it at the same time! With just a minute drive from the Healesville sanctuary and from the town itself, Sanctuary lodge made it super convenient for us to explore these places. Also, a special mention to Joan and Dave-the two gorgeous Burmese cats that live in Sancutary lodge. They truly add to the cosy atmosphere of the house whilst being extremely polite and quiet. They too behave as hosts:) So, if you are after a romantic getaway in a luxurious place without kids' screams interfering with your holiday, you are in for an absolute treat!

NigelSpent a few days here on the start of our holiday and what a relaxing place to be. It's quite a car ride from Melbourne to Healesville but once you arrive to Sanctuary Lodge the journey is forgotten about. The house and grounds are very pleasant with mature trees surrounding the house. The bedroom was large and well appointed with views overlooking the front of the house and towards the hills of the Yarra Valley. A good size comfy bed with nice plain white bedding and also provided was blankets if it ever does get cold that are stored in the good sized dressing room off the en suite shower room. The above mentioned dressing room houses all the drawers you will need if staying for longer than we did along with hanging rail. The bedroom has air conditioning along with a large balcony overlooking the front garden. Susan the current owner and host of the Lodge is very welcoming and cooks a brilliant breakfast and used figs out of her garden to compliment the yoghurt to go with our fruit salad. Her poached eggs and bacon were brilliant. There is plenty of space downstairs from the bedrooms with sitting rooms and a great collection of books and some dvds if the weather isn't too good or you just want to spend the evening in. One of the downstairs reception rooms can be used for meetings. Within the grounds of the Lodge is a pool which we managed to use while we were there for the three days. Just down the road just less than a mile from the Lodge is Healesville township which has Coles supermarket and loads of independent shops, cafes and places to eat. Turn out of the drive from Sanctuary Lodge the other way and just a very short drive is Heakesville Sanctuary which is very nice animal park and home to a great many native Australian animals and mammals. All in all Sanctuary Lodge is a very nice home from home and a good starting point for the wineries and national parks of the Yarra Valley.

Absolutely perfectThis place is absolutely perfect, the hospitality is so warm and exceptional! The grounds are beautiful, the rooms are fantastic and breakfast is delicious. Its a great base if your travelling through the Yarra Valley or for a quiet romantic weekend away. I cannot recommend this place highly enough.

Beautiful Place with great breakfastWe had a wonderful two nights. The rooms have plenty of space with a large bathroom and walk-in robe so no cases lying around. Breakfast was wonderful and the view from your table just made you want to stay there all day. Looking forward to going back. An easy ride to plenty of wineries and great food places.

Poor Customer ServicePlanned to book entire property and have a small garden wedding. Would love to say that we had an enjoyable stay and private wedding however no emails were ever replied to, no phone messages returned, I even tried booking through Yarra Valley Tourism and they couldn't get the owner to reply. We finally drove up to the place and it look neglected and unkempt, nothing like the exterior photos. Very disappointed.
